5 Thought-Provoking Podcasts Run By Women

By Lauren McGoodwin

What’s not to love about a good podcast? You get the thrill of a good story from anywhere, anytime, without having to schlep a heavy hardcover book with you onto the subway. And while we love a good rerun of Serial and we’re diehard fans of Alec Baldwin’s podcast, there are a ton of other podcasts out there that deserve a little love too. That’s particularly true of the podcasts cool women like us are putting out on all sorts of topics from leadership advice to exploring the side hustle generation. So let’s show our support, shall we? Here are some of our favorites.

Help Me Be Me

Not going to lie – pretty sure this podcast changed my life. This January, I was in a total slump and was trying to figure out what I needed to do to make myself happy. These days, I have much more direction. Don’t get me wrong, not all of that came from Help Me Be Me, which host Sarah may describes as “self-help for people who hate self-help,” but it did give me some great insights that I used to get started moving forward. And often, that’s the hardest part.

One Part

We interviewed the One Part podcast founder (and recent cookbook author), Jessica Murnane on Career Contessa last year, and honestly, she blew our minds. The podcast itself continues to be one of our favorites, with interviews ranging from artists and chefs to musicians and who-knows-what-else, but throughout it all, Jessica has the unique perspective and voice of a strong woman with lots of questions and even more thought-provoking observations.

Monocycle

I’m going to write this in a series of two-word sentences. Man Repeller. Leandra Medine. Hilarious insight. Great dynamic. Just download.

Two Inboxes

Gotta love a Forbes podcast dedicated to people who balance day jobs and side hustles, and the best part is that it’s hosted by a rad woman, Molly Beck, who’s also a member of the side hustle generation and who has some unique insights of her own.

Heroine: Women’s Creative Leadership, Confidence, Wisdom

This podcast, hosted by Majo Molfino, a writer and women’s leadership coach, aims to “debunk the myth of overnight success and support women listeners in their own creative leadership. Essentially, the show embraces the classic concept that we’re all in this together. Through interviews with women leaders in all sorts of industries, including business, design, and tech, the show focuses on talking about the hard stuff like confidence, self-help, and mistakes.
