Description

These easy, flavor-packed sour cream and onion biscuits are flaky, fluffy, and totally delish.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups flour (420g)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 10 tablespoons butter, grated or chopped in cubes and kept cold until ready to mix
  • 23 large shallots, chopped and sautéed in oil until translucent
  • 34 large green onions, chopped
  • 1 cup sharp white cheddar cheese, grated fresh
  • 1 3/4 cups sour cream
  • to assemble: heavy cream or milk, additional cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, salt, pepper, sugar, baking soda, and baking powder, and whisk to combine.
  3. Add the butter to the flour and combine with your fingers or a pastry cutter until butter is size of peas. You want butter to remain cold and chunky in the flour.
  4. Add the shallots, green onions, and cheddar to the mix and combine until coated.
  5. Add the sour cream and stir to combine using a spatula or your hands until dough begins to form. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface while still shaggy, and press into a rectangle about 2 inches thick. Cut rectangle into thirds, and stack the three pieces. Flatten again to about 2 inches thick, cut into thirds, and stack the three pieces. Repeat another time.
  6. This time when flattened, cut out into squares using a biscuit cutter or knife. Place cut biscuits onto a sheet tray.
  7. Using a pastry brush, brush tops of biscuits with cream or milk. Sprinkle with additional cheese.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes until biscuits are golden brown. Remove from oven.
  9. Serve warm with honey butter. Enjoy!
