Holiday Shimmer Makeup Tutorial

Holiday Shimmer Makeup TutorialAfter working with her on our New Year’s Eve Space Jam shoot, everyone in the office is pretty much obsessed with makeup artist Laura Martinez. She always looks flawless herself, and the subtle glittery looks she created for the story were just too good not to share. We met up with Laura at Roar Salon to learn how to achieve this “Holiday Shimmer” look that we can’t wait to try out ourselves. With musician (and American Idol Season 8 contestant) Kendall Beard playing model, we’ve got a great example of how this glittery look can work for blondes. “We did a frosty silver on Kendall,” says Laura, “but metallic pewter, copper, and golds are great colors to try out for darker skin tones.” Read below for all the steps you’ll need to know to achieve this mistletoe-ready holiday look:

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. First apply Make Up For Ever HD Primer so that the foundation can last longer. Then apply Make Up For Ever HD Foundation using a foundation brush. This particular foundation provides great coverage with a weightless feel.
  2. To ensure there are no hard lines, blend foundation with a Beauty Blender or sponge for a more flawless look.
  3. Apply concealer to hide any discoloration or imperfections. For this look, I used Make Up For Ever Full Cover Concealer because it is long lasting, creamy and waterproof.
  4. Using an angled brush apply Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo to sculpt brows. Start on the inside corner of the brow and work the powder following the natural shape of your brows.
  5. Apply an eyelid primer, like Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion, for a smoother and more vibrant eyeshadow application and an all night wear.
  6. Apply a satin silver eyeshadow to the eyelid. For this look, I used NARS Night Series Eyeshadow in Night Life.
  7. Apply matte crease colors. First start with a lighter taupe shade like Inglot’s eyeshadow in number 360. Then follow that with a darker brown shade to create a smokey look using Inglot’s eyeshadow in 327.
  8. Apply blush for a warm glow. For this look, I used MAC Cosmetics powder blush in Blushbaby.
  9. Apply neutral rose lipstick like NARS Audacious lipstick in Anita.
  10. Blend lipstick with a brush or your finger for a more natural look.Holiday Shimmer Makeup TutorialcontributorByline_Temporary_KateStaffordWeaver
