Matching Separates

This fall the runways are packed with beautiful color palettes and uniquely structured collections; the message from designers is loud and clear that this is the year to embrace a one-of-a-kind look. Although matching separates have traditionally been thought of as prim and proper, this new edgier crop is about freedom and creativity in one’s personal style. When creating this look for Camille, I wanted to introduce a level of ease to her wardrobe and show how versatile matching separates can be. On its own, these pieces are red carpet-worthy; add a classic trench and they adopt a sophisticated ease that’s perfect for an afternoon of gallery hopping. Keep scrolling for my tips on pulling off a monotone look this season.

Tip #1: Embrace minimalism.

The inherent nature of matching separates is that they can be effortlessly thrown on to create an incredibly chic head-to-toe look. Keep it simple and don’t feel like you have to “mix it up.”

Tip #2: Get creative with outerwear.

A trench coat or bomber is the perfect way to carry your springtime separates right into the cooler months. These essential pieces will extend the shelf life of your matching sets significantly, and they’re a great way to break up the look if you’re afraid of being to matchy. Layering is the easiest way to elevate a look!

Tip #3: Mixing up your separates.

When the temps get warmer, don’t leave your perfectly tailored pant suit hanging in its garment bag waiting to be worn again in the fall. Pull out the trousers for an awesome menswear-inspired look with a crisp white or striped tee!

Tip #4: Create your own matching set.

Do like the fashionistas do and pull off your own combination of separates using pieces that weren’t made to go together — but when paired, read as a “set!” For you rebels out there, it’s a matching look that’s all your own.
