They say you can judge the economy by the rise and fall of the current season’s hemlines. If the same is true for waistlines, then I would say things are looking up! I’m not afraid to admit that in high school I owned denim so low that the zipper became some sort of superfluous accessory to the jean. Now that the pendulum has swung in the other direction, I can’t imagine ever going back. Mid and high-rise denim is popping up all, from the Gap to these James Jeans and everything in between.

My love for this new high-rise runs deep.  My abs have taken a (hopefully) brief leave of absence in wake of the human they produced and they feel so much better when snugly buttoned into denim as opposed to spilling out of it. I also love that the rise accentuates the skinniest part of your waist in a way low-rise denim can’t.  Most of all, after years of low-slung jeans, I love how fresh this style feels.

So how do you wear it? You can tuck in a simple tank or tee or opt for a shorter style shirt.  Not ready to show off your new high rise?  Then style them as you would any other pair of jeans and no one will be the wiser.

Get the look!
