They say you can judge the economy by the rise and fall of the current season’s hemlines. If the same is true for waistlines, then I would say things are looking up! I’m not afraid to admit that in high school I owned denim so low that the zipper became some sort of superfluous accessory to the jean. Now that the pendulum has swung in the other direction, I can’t imagine ever going back. Mid and high-rise denim is popping up all, from the Gap to these James Jeans and everything in between.
My love for this new high-rise runs deep. Â My abs have taken a (hopefully) brief leave of absence in wake of the human they produced and they feel so much better when snugly buttoned into denim as opposed to spilling out of it. I also love that the rise accentuates the skinniest part of your waist in a way low-rise denim can’t. Â Most of all, after years of low-slung jeans, I love how fresh this style feels.
So how do you wear it? You can tuck in a simple tank or tee or opt for a shorter style shirt. Â Not ready to show off your new high rise? Â Then style them as you would any other pair of jeans and no one will be the wiser.
