New York, I Love You

Do you have a spirit place? The concept had never occurred to me before reading this post, but after a little consideration I knew without a doubt that my spirt place is New York City. I was 18 when I first visited as the most enthusiastic tourist Manhattan has ever seen. There is this convergence there of old and new and what’s to come that feels so uniquely energizing and inspiring. In New York, I’ve attended fashion shows for my favorite designers, sledded down hills in Central Park when a blizzard canceled all flights, shopped for clients from sun-up to sun-down, eaten the best Chinese food of my life… and Italian… and Cuban, eerily wandered empty SoHo streets after hurricane Sandy, rung in the New Year on a stage in Times Square, run with the marathoners through Central Park, made some amazing new friends, and have been inspired to always keep dreaming bigger.

Meanwhile I do love and work and live in LA, but I have to make the pilgrimage east at least twice a year. A few weeks ago I was back there for a few meetings around town and a fun collaboration with Better Homes and Gardens. It was difficult leaving Parker for the first time, but I fit more into one day there than I ever have here in LA! It’s remarkable what you can accomplish when everything is within a few miles radius. I met up with Annabel from Belathee and had the best time seeing the city through her eyes and lens. The metallic embellishments of this Elizabeth and James two piece number reminded us of a modern take on Art Deco which led us to this incredible building with all of it’s gilded goodness. The amount of art and architecture packed into each city block is beyond fascinating.
