Last year my New Year’s resolution was to try my hand at the 5 Piece French Wardrobe, and it truly worked to focus my shopping habits. But now our resident style guru Jen has me totally intrigued by the Capsule Wardrobe. I like to set my alarm a bit earlier so I can indulge in the act of slowly getting ready in the morning, but I still manage to have my fair share of frenzied nothing-to-wear moments. The thought of standing in front of my closet in the morning and seeing a neat little collection like the one in this photo is so alluring to me. This weekend I’m going to get to work on my 30 pieces, and naturally I’m also thinking about the best way to display and organize them. A garment rack is essential, and I’m loving the antique steamer trunk as a station to keep accessories and a few style inspiration photos. The only problem is… how to narrow down the shoes. Is anyone else trying out the Capsule Wardrobe?
Garment rack – There are many garment rack options from DIY pipe racks to very cheap and cheerful, but if you’re looking to splurge then this marble one is a stunner and would also make a statement in an entryway.
Marble shelf – The Capsule Wardrobes I’ve seen included accessories, so pick your favorite pair of sunnies and your best earrings and display them on a little shelf like this one.
Antique hat stands & hat – This depends on whether you wear hats or not, but I’m partial to a good wide brim hat for my bad hair days, and I love the bespoke feel of these antique hat stands.
Insect paper weights & Vase – If you’re anything like me, then your capsule is going to involve a lot of neutral colors, so bring some fresh color in with a couple small vases and accessories like these.
Mirror – Antique and unique mirrors are a natural accessory for a dressing room or closet, and can easily be thrifted or found in antique stores.
Steamer trunk – Ever see a steamer trunk or a vintage suitcase in an antique shop and just wish you had a use for them? Well they make a sweet little table at the base of a full length mirror or garment rack.
Slipper chair – I’d like to say this slipper chair is for putting on shoes in the morning, but in full disclosure its prime use is for throwing a coat over the back after a long day at work when you don’t have the energy to put clothes away.
Eyelash plate – You could of course store your falsies in this dish, but necklaces or keys work too.
