Weekend Notes

The past week has been made up of some really lovely days: working in the morning, spending the afternoons with Phoebe swimming in the pool and making popsicles, and enjoying milder-than-usual (for Austin) summer evenings sipping rosé on the patio with Adam while our dinner cooks away on the grill. I’ve definitely been making an effort to slow down and savor the looser schedule of summer, which I’ve realized takes a concerted effort since it sometimes means turning off my phone for a few hours, or letting emails wait until the next day (two things I’m usually not very good at.) Speaking of slowing down, I just started reading In Praise of Slow, and I’m finding the author’s philosophy of challenging current society’s “need for speed” really inspiring. I’ll share more on my thoughts about it when I’ve finished the book, but in the meantime, I’d love to hear: how do you guys make time for savoring summer’s delights, even when you’re not on vacation and the work week marches on? I’d love to hear in the comments, and don’t miss my favorite links from the past week!

These mini ice cream waffle sandwiches are genius… and look so delish.

Love reading actress Julie Bowen’s down-to-earth take on motherhood.

This project makes me want to memorize every single moment as Phoebe grows up.

Are you health obsessed? (I laughingly had to check off more than one of these!)

and on the topic of summer drinks:

A (beautiful)  build-your-own gin & tonic bar.

The best fruity punch recipes — so great for serving a crowd!

and a few fun things you may have missed!

Girls of summer Claire and Kate make a splash (and celebrate 20 years of friendship.)

How to shop smart for antiques.

I’ve never been a big fan of potato salad, until this happened.

I am adding that book to my summer reading list! It feels like the summer is going way too fast, but I’m trying to delay its departure by enjoying the warm days and spending as much time as possible at the beach.
