Yep, you guessed right… as of this week, I’m 20 weeks pregnant (the halfway point!) and there is officially no more hiding this bump. It has popped! We’re super excited about the arrival of baby #2, and are pretty giddy that it’s a BOY this time around! Phoebe is already obsessed with the idea of her new baby brother, and this Christmas, we’ll definitely be celebrating a whole new adventure for our family.
When it comes to my own news, I’m pretty much the world’s worst secret keeper, so I’ve been bursting to spill the beans to you guys. Luckily, with my book tour this fall and the blur of the holiday season, things have been busy enough to make the first 20 weeks fly by.
A few quick updates on my pregnancy so far…
What I’ve been craving:
- peppermint ice cream
- chicken salad sandwiches
- cold crunchy vegetables (thankfully, since with my first pregnancy I couldn’t stomach the site of a salad)
- burgers & fries
- grapefruit
How I’ve been feeling:
- I managed to almost completely escape morning sickness this time around (it’s true what they say: every pregnancy is so different!), and am so thankful to have felt surprisingly high energy throughout my book tour travels. And, I’ve been feeling soooo excited about having a boy!
What I’ve been thinking about:
- Boy names (for me, it’s been way harder than girl names!!)
- Making a point to spend really special time with Phoebe — my friends with more than one child have wisely reminded me that it’ll never be just the 3 of us again.
- Mostly thinking about all that I love about the infant stage (the sweet cuddles and gentleness of a newborn) but also about some of my not-so-favorite parts (lack of sleep and pumping – ugh)
What I’m worried about:
- I have to admit that I’m a little apprehensive about the inevitable craziness of juggling a demanding workload and life with 2 kids. Now that Phoebe’s almost 2 1/2, we’ve gotten in a really good rhythm schedule-wise, and I know it is all going to change once the new baby comes along. On one hand, I feel so ready for this new chapter… but on the other, I know that I’m not really “ready” at all, if that makes sense. I know it’ll be necessary to approach life with a “one day at a time” mentality, at least at first, and it’s most important to me to find a way to continue doing what I’m passionate about at work, while structuring our time in a way where I’m getting to fully immerse myself in these baby and toddler days that are so fleeting. Would love to hear any advice from you moms who have been there ahead of me!
Thank you all for your love and support — I really do feel it from across the miles and it means so much. Hope you’re all having a joyful start to this Christmas week. I’m definitely savoring this sweetest gift ever! xo
BIG thanks to our friend and photographer Kate LeSueur for capturing these moments with Phoebe, our new baby and me!

Congratulations, Camille! Yes life is crazier, but super fulfilled with two! Little boys always have a special connection with their mommy (I know, I have two of them). PS you will miraculously find time for your passions and your babes–you just won’t sleep much 🙂 xo
Thanks Maritza — that is a great reminder that we will figure out how to make it work. And you’re right — motherhood teaches you how to conquer so much more than you ever thought possible! xo
How exciting – Congratulations!!
Can’t wait to meet the baby boy! YAY!

congratulations! what a fun life space. wishing you and your family a lovely holiday.
Congratulations, Camille! That’s so exciting!!
I can’t even deal with these pictures!
To me, there are two crucial pieces to parenting (besides loving them unconditionally) and they are: (1) sharing the evening meal together as a family as often as possible and (2) reading to your children every night before bedtime. I have a daughter and a son (21 and 18) and I wish you all the best! Love your blog!
Love this advice, Alison — will definitely take it to heart and remember it through these crazy first years! Thanks for sharing!
YAY!!! Congratulations on the news! Very happy for you and your family

My post was supposed to show some Christmas trees at the end, not question marks. Not sure how that happened!
Haha! Envisioning the Christmas trees instead…
Ahh so exciting, Camille!! Congrats to you and your sweet little family! These pics are so precious.
Congrats Camille!!!! Can’t wait to see the nursery and Phoebe’s big girl room.

SO excited for you mama- for all of us. It’s going to be an epic 2015 that’s for sure. I’m so excited that we’re all in this together!

Congratulations!! So happy for you!! I am 14 weeks pregnant too! P.S Phoebe and Felix sound great together! 😉 xx
That is adorable!!
Congratulations on your new little one! Boys are fun! I have 3 🙂
Aww, 3 boys! so fun!
Congratulations Camille, that is such awesome news ???? I loved reading your post as my partner and I are currently 36 weeks with our first, also a boy and I have been craving healthy foods, especially cold / frozen things like any raw crunchy vegetable, frozen peas & ice!! The no morning sickness has been great, although the reflux in the 3rd trimester has not been so enjoyable.
I think the “one day at a time” is sound advice; although we are soo super excited to meet our little boy, the anxiety of being a first time parent is very daunting.
Congratulations again and I look so forward to hearing about your pregnancy journey and new arrival 🙂 xo
Woops – that shouldn’t read “????” after awesome news – it was actually a smiley face but it seems my emoticon has gone “html wrong”???
Congratulations Camille, that is awesome news 🙂 🙂 🙂
Thanks Robyn! You are going to do great… I’m so glad that you’ve felt good so far, and although there are some unpleasant effects of the 3rd trimester, you are almost there!! Big congrats to you, and enjoy every moment with your new babe. It is truly the adventure of a lifetime, and things are about to get a lot more fun! 🙂
Before you announced your first pregnancy, I had a hunch and thought it was funny that I was right. This time, I was having coffee one Saturday morning and I told my husband I had a feeling you’d be announcing you were pregnant soon. I just told him you announced and he looked at me as if I was some witchy woman but really, other moms just know. Congrats. My little guy just turned 10 months and his sister could not possibly love him more. Enjoy.
That’s so funny Yanira! Thanks for the congrats — and I agree, something about becoming a mom helps you learn to listen to your intuition! Maybe I was radiating motherhood vibes… Thanks for sharing and have a happy New Year!
Congrats Camille! So excited for you all…and especially excited that you are having a boy this time around. I feel so fortunate to have experienced being a mother of a girl and now a boy–sooooo different! The only way I can explain it is that I love my little girl to pieces, but I am IN LOVE with my boy! You will see! Just get ready…these boys eat A LOT! Ps. your pictures are precious! Congrats again!
Thanks Sus!! We are so thrilled — and yes, part of the excitement is definitely wrapped up in knowing that we are on a whole different adventure with a boy! Can’t wait, and hope that our babes get to play together sometime soon! xoxo
Thrilling news, congratulations! You can manage with two…if anything, it kept me more structured! 🙂
what exciting news! whenever you feel anxious about adding a new baby to the mix, just remember that a sibling is the greatest gift you can give your sweet little girl. what adventures they will have together! i have 4 little ones and i can still find time for my passions and interests outside of mothering. us busy mamas can manage our time in incredible ways! congrats on an exciting 2015 ahead!
Thanks for those sweet words, Suzanne. And you are right, I am SO thrilled about Phoebe having a baby brother… it is the most special lifelong relationship, and I can’t wait to see them together!
Congratulations!! So exciting!
Oh I missed this post amidst the holiday excitement!! Congrats. I’m touching 18 weeks, so we’re just a few weeks apart! It’s my second pregnancy as well, but mine are 4 years apart. I actually had more sickness and fatigue this timr around- so it’s true that each time is different. And Sriracha was what I craved during the first 10 weeks!! Good luck and stay healthy and happy.
