14 Best Pairs of Mules

By Chanel Dror

First thing’s first, y’all: What exactly constitutes a mule? When I posed that question to team the other day, we quickly realized that while we’re all talking about and shopping for the season’s hottest shoe, we all also have really differing ideas about what a mule actually looks like. After hours of research (i.e. online shopping), I came to the conclusion that essentially, it’s nothing more than a backless shoe that slides on (flip flops excluded!). And for those of you not-so-disciplined when it comes to summer pedicures, you’ll be glad to know that close-toed shoes totally count too. With a definition that vague, narrowing down our favorites for today’s feature bordered along impossible, but fear not! I took one for the team, buckled down and sifted through the thousands of mules out there to bring you a selection of the 14 pairs we’re loving.
