“Be Yourself Together” at Target

When I got married 5 years ago, I bypassed the special occasion china registry in favor of registering for a large selection of sturdy, everyday dishes. For me, it represented a future full of fun, casual gatherings surrounded by lots of people we loved — and it’s come true! Target’s newest campaign, “Be Yourself Together,” inspires engaged couples to take a similar approach with their registries by handpicking the items that reflect their personal styles — and letting traditional registry rules go by the wayside. I loved attending Target’s recent popup wedding registry event in Austin where they brought in a team of experts to show off the products right where they belong–inside an eclectic home! I was a little tempted to start a new registry of my own… Click through for a tour and a peek at how Target’s tackling the task of registering.

Target took over a cool downtown bungalow as the scene for the pop-up and swooped in with an assortment of their chicest items for the home, allowing engaged couples to envision their stylish future together.

This year for the “Be yourself together” campaign, Target encourages all soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs. to create a registry akin to both their individual and collective tastes.

Starting in what’s the heart of most homes (the kitchen!), my friends Jack and Jeanine of Love & Lemons put together a hands-on workshop to highlight select cooking products offered through the registry.

Jeanine showed off her juicing skills with a KitchenAid stand mixer in an eye-catching shade of teal (which I decided I must someday own.)

After the recent ‘Entertaining With’ story we shot at her house (click for her at-home Valentine’s date night inspiration!), we’re certain Target could not have chosen a better expert for the job.

Jeanine’s practical, authentic approach to cooking matches the campaign’s push for a more personal approach to registering.

She transformed a mango, blueberry mint juice into a rich, creamy ice cream, guiding guests in how to utilize whichever items they pick out for their registries.

Since the bedroom is such a personal shared space, it’s important each person gets a say in how it’s styled. These simple lines with vibrant yellow and teal hues make for sweets dreams on both sides of the bed — and don’t slant towards being overly masculine or feminine.

A life well lived looks different for every couple. With this in mind, Target allowed the couples to actually experience the registry with all their senses instead of simply shopping it.

The music lovers definitely found something to add to their list, especially with the help of hip hop duo Riders Against the Storm who were on hand to offer up advice and keep the party bumpin’.

As did the outdoors-y types at the Stiles Switch Barbecue pop-up in the backyard, where the couple behind the Austin original served up their signature bbq and demo’d several outdoor grilling options.

They made jalapeno poppers for guests to snack on before firing up the grill for the main, meaty event.

The slow cooked brisket made me anxious to send out an invite to a spring (can’t even wait for summer!) barbecue.

To provide inspiration for that oh-so-anticipated “first dinner party” together, Target setup a colorful spread with all the tabletop details any new couple could need.
