One of the trends we’re loving for summer is a strong liquid-lined eye paired with a nude lip: some might say it’s a Lana Del Rey kind of thing, but we’d rather cite 60’s French film star Brigette Bardot. “Bardot is one of the original bombshells but anyone can pull off this look,” says makeup artist Nisa Nicole at ROAR Salon. “The special eye treatment is a perfect way to feel girly and pretty with just a few simple steps. This can be a day or evening look and can be paired with a messy bun and jeans or with your favorite LBD and wedges!” Read below for Nisa’s technique for channeling Brigitte’s signature sultry look:

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Use your fingers or a synthetic, flat makeup brush to apply cream shadow in a light neutral color like MAC Prolongwear Paintpot in Genuine Treasure to create a even tone over the entire lid.
  2. Create a winged liner by using a liquid, gel or cream liner and a flat or pointed makeup brush. I used MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack. Start on the outside corner of your eye and flick the liner up towards the temple, then draw the line to the middle of the eye and fill in.   Pull the liner all the way into the corner of the eye. Tip: A thicker line will create a more dramatic look.
  3. Line the bottom water line (the rim of your eye above your bottom lashes) with the black eye liner. For the best results, use a waterproof liner for this step.
  4. Apply individual false lashes (this is a small cluster or group of lashes) to the outsides of your eye only. The longer the lashes you apply, the more your cat eye will show.  Apply these lashes with a small amount of glue and using tweezers, set them lightly on top of your own lashes.  The tips of the falsies should touch your lid slightly to line up with your natural lash line.
  5. Apply two coats of lengthening mascara to the top lashes concentrating most of the product on the outer lashes.  Using the mascara wand, fan lashes out by dragging the wand sideways across the outer lashes.  If desired, apply a light coat of mascara on the bottom outer lashes.
  6. Apply your favorite foundation to even out your skin tone.  Tip: A liquid or cream foundation is best to create a dewy, skin like finish. I used Make Up For Ever Face and Body liquid Foundation.
  7. Use a shadow and slanted brush to fill in your brows. Choose a color that is one or two shades lighter than your own hair color. Create a high arch by going just outside of the top line of your natural brow line.  The goal is to make the brow look full and perfectly shaped, not necessarily darker. Brush product through and brow hair up with a eyebrow brush or old toothbrush.
  8. Apply a pale pink (think “girlie pink”) to your lips.

Nisa’s Pro Tip: To remove the false lashes, just wash your face like normal and gently pull lashes off.  The glue will become pliable when exposed to a cleanser.  These lashes can also be left on for a day or two by avoiding the eye area with cleanser and using a makeup wipe to remove all other makeup.
