Adam and I typically have a strict “carry-on only” policy when we travel, and last week’s trip to St-Tropez was no exception. Seven days at a destination that required lots of different outfit needs (sightseeing, beach lounging, dressing up to go out at night) definitely made it a challenge, but one I was willing to embrace in order to miss the headache of long waits at baggage claim or worry about our luggage getting lost. As part of our ongoing series with ASOS on packing for beach vacations, I’m sharing two looks that worked overtime on our trip: one for a day at the famous St-Tropez market, the other for relaxing at the beach and lunching at the legendary Club 55.
A Day at the Market
St-Tropez’s Saturday morning market is not to be missed, and I wanted to wear something comfy and casual enough for the miles of walking I knew we’d be doing, but that would still feel pulled together enough for popping into the higher-end stores and stopping for a lunch at a nice café. I started with this ASOS Oversized T-Shirt (just went on sale!) that feels like loungewear but has tailored details like front seams and a dipped hem that lend it a polished look, especially when tucked into fitted shorts.
These ASOS Low Rise Denim Shorts did double duty on the trip, going from polished with a tucked-in top for sightseeing, to thrown over a bikini for poolside relaxing. White shorts have always been a signature piece in my closet, and I love the cute punctured detail and raw-edged hem that makes these feel laid-back without being sloppy.
Since I had limited room in my suitcase, I brought just a handful of accessories that I could pair with lots of different looks throughout the trip. Plus (for me at least), a beach vacation doesn’t require tons of bling! The simple pieces that finished off this sightseeing-ready ensemble: a straw fedora to keep the sun off my face, a delicate pair of anchor & swallow gold bracelets, and ASOS Flood Light Leather Flat Sandals which look great with a casual pair of shorts or dressed up with a chic white dress, as I did later that night! The next day, we headed to the beach…
A Day at the Beach
I loved the beach club culture in St-Tropez, where everyone staked out their prime spots on the sand in the morning, then meandered up to the outdoor tables for long afternoon lunches with friends. Of course, it required some serious strategy to put together an outfit that would be casual enough for the sand, protect against potentially chilly ocean breezes, and still look chic enough for sipping rosé at an alfresco lunch.
This ASOS Striped Jumper Dress saved the day — an easy piece I could throw on over my swimsuit and cozy up in when the breezes picked up. One of my favorite things about dresses like this is that they don’t really require any outfit planning – pull it over your head and you’re done! The star patches on the elbows are a fun little surprise on this dress, and I actually got a few compliments from chic french gals at the restaurant… maybe it was the stripes? In any case, this is a dress that I’ll be wearing all summer long, paired with wedges and a tote for work, and barefoot with a wide-brimmed hat for lounging at home on the weekends. For more details on our St-Tropez trip go here, tips on packing for a beach vacation here, and be sure to stop back by this Friday when I’ll be sharing one of my nighttime looks from the trip, as well as announcing a super fun giveaway where one of you can win your own summer wardrobe from ASOS!
