It’s practically a law that every woman should have a little black dress in her closet, but I think a white lace-y one also deserves must-have status. While sometimes considered a delicate piece reserved for special occasions, by styling your frock with laid-back jackets or casual shoes, you can achieve a variety of different looks. Pair it with a straw hat and colorful earrings for a boho ensemble, or try it with moto boots and a leather jacket for a rock-n-roll vibe. The versatility of a white lace dress makes it an essential piece even for a capsule wardrobe, so keep reading for my tips on pulling one off, for any occasion.
Tip #1: Leave something to the imagination.
Lace is undeniably sexy, but those with true style know when to tone it back. When wearing head-to-toe lace, try not to be overly revealing. There’s nothing more intriguing than a little mystery.
Tip #2: Pair with unexpected pieces.
Once relegated to Easter brunches or dressy cocktail parties, a white lace dress is now totally appropriate for more casual occasions, too. Major style points go to the girl who pairs her lace number with a pair of sneakers or a leather moto jacket.
Tip #3: Modern lace > vintage lace.
This is one scenario when I prefer modern clothing over vintage. New lace dresses are constructed with functionality and durability in mind, whereas vintage lace dresses tend to be more delicate and often overlook the needs of the modern woman, like dependable zippers and hidden pockets.
Tip #4: Experiment with different styles.
Lace is having a moment right now, and we are seeing so many trendy options available online and in stores. Go ahead and try on a few different cuts (midi vs. maxi, spaghetti straps vs. bell sleeves) to find out which styles work best for you and your body.
This Self Portrait dress is equally perfect for hosting an Easter gathering at home with family as it is for celebrating summer nights with champagne and a group of friends. Paired with casual pieces, it could even be easy enough for weekend brunch… go ahead and give it a whirl!
