Waffles with One of Our All Time Favorite Food Bloggers

A cornbread, mimosas, and pajamas kind of day.

brunch with joy the baker

Believe me when I say that I don’t take the term “fan girl” lightly. I can count on one hand the number of women in blogland for whom I truly allow myself to go there, and the subject of today’s Tastemaker series just so happens to be one of them. I’ve been making Joy the Baker’s recipes for years you guys (literally drank this smoothie every morning for the better half of last year), and I’ve loved reading her personable, funny musings for just as long.

And just when I thought I couldn’t love the New Orleans based blogger and author anymore, she went off and started doing this. If you ask me, Joy and I are kindred spirits, but something tells me that once you get a glimpse of her entertaining style, you’ll feel the same. Keep reading to see how Joy the Baker hosts, and at the very end, look for the link to shop her new cookbook that’s all about brunch… yum.

Your must-have entertaining tool:

A stemless glass of white wine (my favorite), a spatula, fresh flowers, and a clean kitchen counter. That’s a lot of tools, isn’t it? The wine and clean counter are most important.

What’s the entertaining rule you rarely break?

There are rules?

What scares you about entertaining?

I’m always worried I’ll burn the toast. I have a reputation for being a great baker and a terrible toast maker.

What’s your signature entertaining dish?

Fresh bread.

The taste you’re always craving:

Anything salty! Preferably potato chips, sometimes dipped in chocolate.

What items are always in your refrigerator?

Eggs, tortillas, and at least one Drake on Cake.

The perfect dinner party playlist includes:

Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight”

This well-curated gallery wall in Joy’s dining room served as the perfect backdrop for her from-scratch brunch.

What’s the one restaurant meal you’ll never forget?

I had a marathon meal at The French Laundry that I’ll never forget and always want to recreate.

Your standard hostess outfit:

Denim dress, a Hedley & Bennet apron, and lipstick.

What’s your current favorite color palette for parties?

I love peaches, pinks, and denim right now.

Your dream dinner guests. Go!

Anyone that eats a lot and compliments more.

Your entertaining style in 5 words or less:

Come in, there’s fresh bread!
