Her chic yet laid back sense of style has been featured in numerous publications, and her love of fashion, fitness, nutrition, and travel all come together to make Renee someone you would instantly want to have on speed dial.
We spent a morning with Renee at her charming bungalow on the canal in Venice, CA talking everything from meditation and horoscopes to surfing, beauty, fashion. This girl truly does it all with effortless style and grace –the one thing she can’t do? Take a bad picture. Read on to see how Renee Bargh gets ready to go straight from the beach to strutting the red carpet.
What time is your wake-up call?
Around 7am (most days.)
What wakes you up each day?
I wake up naturally most mornings but set an alarm just in case. ( I always wake up before it)
Early bird or night owl? How much sleep do you usually get?
Early bird! I try to get 8 hours but it’s normally closer to 6….
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
Wash my face and then meditate for twenty minutes.
Describe your getting ready routine from start to finish. How long does it usually take?
Thankfully I have an incredible glam team at Extra and they have it down to an art. It normally takes 30-45 minutes including getting dressed. If I’m getting myself ready on a weekend it normally doesn’t take longer than 20/30 minutes. I start by washing my face and then I apply sunscreen and moisturizer. Then if it’s a day off work I will wear a tinted moisturizer and some of my favorite luma cheek tint and bronzer. I use RMS illuminater on my cheeks and lucky eye polish and that’s it.
Do you plan your outfits in advance, or create them on the fly?
I try to plan in advance or at least think about it the night before so I have an idea. I’m a true Libra so I’m very indecisive. Even when I think I have it worked out, I end up procrastinating in the moment…. I also have go to looks that I mix up a little bit, but basically I stick to a uniform.
What do you eat for breakfast?
I make a smoothie with almond milk, bananas, vital proteins collagen powder, ashwaganda, reishi. Sometimes (usually weekend when I have more time) I’ll do a breakfast salad with greens and a poached egg.
Any morning media rituals?
I love to listen to ‘The Daily’ podcast on my morning commute and ‘On Being.’ I also listen to the radio either kiss fm or the highway country music- always puts me in a good mood.
What’s your favorite getting-ready soundtrack?
Oh that’s a long list!! It depends what mood I’m in… I love listening to Van Morrison or John Mayer or Ray Lamontagne, Chris Stapleton or Biggie! I have very eclectic taste in music so everyday it’s something different.
Do you workout in the mornings?
I don’t normally work out in the mornings except for the weekends when I go to morning hot yoga for 90 mins.
I never leave the house without: My cell phone And snacks because I get very hangry.
If you could only put on one item of makeup, what would it be?
The base LB cream – it’s SPF tinted moisturizer and has amazing coverage but is still quite sheer.
Do you stick to the same makeup and hair routine, or do you like to experiment?
We keep it pretty much the same daily for efficiency and I’m a creature of habit.
Do you have a signature scent?
Yes! Le Labo Santal. I’ve been wearing it for almost 8 years!
Healthiest morning habit:
My TM meditation practice.
Worst morning habit:
Checking my texts and emails before my meditation.
Daily uniform:
Jeans and a sweater or a T with sneakers or slides.
Shower: morning or night?
Either… usually night.
What’s your favorite product in your shower?
Dr Bronner’s Peppermint Body Wash
If you had one extra hour every morning, how would you use it?
I would do a long beach walk if I had more time. It’s my happy place & always centers me & grounds me for the day.
One word to describe your mornings:
Efficient.
