If you’ve seen my house, you know I love my houseplants — there’s no chicer (or cheaper) way to add a major dose of style to any room. But what you may not know is that I’m terrible at keeping them alive. Since I’m determined to change my ways and develop a green thumb, I asked Chanel (our team’s resident plant whisperer) to come and teach me her best tips on keeping my houseplants alive and thriving. Watch the video and learn how to feed, water, and care for my 3 favorite varieties, and I’d love to hear your best house plant care tips in the comments!

This post is brought to you by Miracle-Gro.
Adorable!! I love this video. We have some succulents that are struggling on our patio right now, so I’m going to make sure there are holes in the bottom and consider upgrading to Miracle Gro soil!
This was SO helpful!! I’m excited to go plant shopping now that I know how to take care of such a wide variety of plants. Very informative. Two green thumbs up 🙂
Love the video, super informative! I’ve been struggling with my fiddle leaf and miracle grow has really helped! “That reminds me of when I met you in the summer. To my heartbeat sound. We fell in love. As the leaves turned brown.”
Hello Camille and team! First, I have to say that I love your blog, and in a very saturated blogging world, yours is one of the few that I regularly visit. I appreciate the range of topics and the different “voices” writing/contributing to the site.
I wanted to comment on this Miracle-Gro post especially in light of your recent post on using organic/non-GMO ingredients (the recent recipe on taco bites). Today’s post just seems contradictory given the background/history of the Miracle-Gro company (its relationship with Monsanto, pesticide violations, EPA orders to stop using possible carcinogens and endocrine disrupting chemicals in MG products, etc…).
I know health and wellness is a process and it’s extremely difficult to go organic and non-GMO 100% of the time. As in almost anything, small changes make a difference, and sometimes it’s easier to make changes in one area of our lives first (e.g., food choices) instead of attempting to make complete reversals. However, as your site is about “clean living” and “healthy choices”, I would have liked to see safer alternatives for caring for plants, in the same way that you promote healthy ingredients in recipes… as well as collaborations with companies that are more aligned with your site’s vision. Thank you for listening!
Camille, thank you for the post on gardening. As a long time gardener and flower grower I wanted to comment on Mia’s well thought out and polite note. I often use Miracle Grow and other over the counter fertilizers and supplements for my house plants and flowers. I enjoy the results I get and the ease in applying. I respect the choices others make who believe in using nothing but all natural organic fertilizers but this is not necessarily the best method for everyone. I don’t really worry about their safety and love the beautiful flowers they produce.
Thanks for the post- like you I struggle with indoor plants and often wonder if I have a “black thumb.” After watching this video I feel a bit more confident. Keep the tips coming!
Maybe now I can FINALLY bring my succulents back to life!! Love this video, y’all are perfect as always! (:
Our house doesn’t have awesome windows like Camille, but I just bought a golden pothos because they seem so easy to keep alive. Fingers are crossed I can keep these thumbs green.
Ahhh! You guys I swear by this stuff. My cactus Jane has lived a long, happy life thanks to Miracle Gro. Now keeping a fiddle leaf fig tree alive might have to be my next challenge…
Love the plant tips but most of all I want to know where Chanel got those adorable overalls!
Got them from Free People a year (or two?) ago!
Aw, shucks 🙂
Chanel, you are really #overallgoals.
This makes my heart happy! I’ve been thinking about adding more plants to my house and office and am so glad to know what will work in the right environments! Thanks Camille and Chanel! Fun video with so much to learn!
Great tips. But I want to know where Chanel got that fab top! off the shoulder and lace with cuffs, ingenious!
Thank you, girls!

hello i just bought a fruiting meyers lemon tree and yes its january its leaves are curling up and drying up idk if its because of being to cold or being water to much ? help ! [email protected]
I love love love this blog. I became a plant lover when I was in junior high school. I’m 47 now and still love houseplants. Thank you for this post because houseplants seem to be a lost culture in a world of busy careers and contemporary styles that don’t necessarily include these oxygen creating beauties. The one thing I would like to add is that I noticed your rocks at the bottom of your plant pots! A+! But you didn’t explain why. It took me years to understand why so I think it’s really important for plant lovers to know the importance of the gravel/rocks adding a barrier of protection from water retention. The gravel gives the root base a protective height away from this water retention thus preventing drowning the beautiful life out of your plant. I love seeing blogs like this. Keep up the good work ladies ??
VERY GOOD INFO I HAVE AN ALL GLASS GARAGE DOOR WITH PLANTS, MOST OF THE PLANTS YALL MENTION I LOVE HOW THEY ARE GROWING WITH JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SUNLIGHT. THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT TIPS
