There’s a great passage in Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye when Holden Caulfield, the angsty protagonist, is overwhelmed with pity for his roommate for having such terrible luggage. This is me in every airport ever. I’m standing at the bag carousel, watching a sad parade of black nylon roll by, wondering what happened to Americans when it comes to travel. You see, I’m passionate about luggage. I sincerely believe that we’re treated significantly better as a travelers when we look put together. And hey, if we have to collectively suffer the realities of modern day air travel, we might as well look decent doing it. But there’s a light at the end of the baggage claim: luggage manufacturers are finally catching on and we’re seeing a new, well-designed generation of bags available to travelers.
