The day of a big event or a night out, I usually blow-out and style my hair in the morning since I know I probably won’t have time to do it later. But by 6 o’clock, my fine hair has almost certainly lost it’s “oomph.” For reviving limp locks, dry shampoo is my ultimate secret weapon; with a few strategic spritzes at the roots, greasiness is gone and my hair is back in action. I’ve compared notes with a few fellow dry shampoo devotees, and it seems that everyone has a brand that they swear by. Keep reading to find out our beauty council faves, as well as a few pro-tips on using it to get that va-va-volume.

This dry shampoo is amazing; it has a light, clean scent and truly disappears into the hair, leaving zero chalkiness behind.

Rahua Voluminous Dry Shampoo
This product is my second-day hair go-to if I don’t have time to wash my hair but still need something to absorb the natural oils and lift my roots.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
Ever since discovering that this is the only dry shampoo on the market that’s scientifically proven to actually remove grease and make hair cleaner, I’ve been a believer.
Pro Tip: Spray it liberally at the roots, wait 30 seconds, then flip hair over and use fingers to rub it all in. Flip back up and brush through to remove any icky stuff, leaving hair full of volume.

If you want a dry shampoo that actually cleans your hair without water, this is it. I first tested it after a sweaty SoulCycle class and couldn’t believe how fantastic my hair looked. Like many dry shampoos, it goes on powdery, but after absorbing oil and sweat, all the residue disappears leaving your scalp completely refreshed.

Kérastase Powder Bluff
This is my favorite because aside from being a dry shampoo, it also adds amazing volume.

R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo
Anh Tran Co from Ramirez Tran who does the best wavey beach hair doesn’t let you leave his salon without a bottle of this and Oribe Texurizing Spray. These two combined make your hair look like you just woke up from a nap after surfing (the look I’m always trying to achieve without actually surfing).

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Black Dry Shampoo
As a woman with blunt bangs in Texas, I’ve tried my fair share of the dry shampoos out there, and this is my current favorite. It’s super effective at bringing my bangs back to life, but it’s also the first fine fragrance dry shampoo with notes of sandalwood, vanilla, and violet. The Olsen Twins, masters of multi-tasking and enviable tresses, have created the perfect combination of fragrance and dry shampoo in one. If you consider yourself less of a Mary Kate, and more of an Ashley, Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Dry Shampoo is also available.

Pro Tip: Tousle your hair with your hands upside down as if you’re giving your head a scalp massage.
