Of course, a new season is also the perfect time to break out of our comfort zones and try out styles we may not have worn in the past, so I’m thrilled to kickoff the first post in our Pulling It Off series for spring! Our favorite stylist, Taylor Jarrett, is back to show us how to wear one of the beautifully embroidered blouses that are everywhere this season, and I am absolutely loving this feminine, boho look. Airy and carefree, an embroidered blouse is a must-have in your wardrobe this spring. With so many designers adapting the classic trend, the range of purchasing options are limitless, from global street markets and vintage stores to the high end clothing racks of Neiman Marcus and Net-A-Porter. Embroidered blouses are a unique and simple way to add a dash of culture and beauty to your wardrobe.

This look is perfect for the breezy lawn parties and sunset cocktail dates that are synonymous with spring. When creating this look for Camille, I wanted to add modern elements that would streamline the glam vibes of this vintage embroidered blouse. From the Worth and Worth straw hat to the trendy Gucci Marmont Logo Belt, I wanted to fuse eclectic pieces that would elevate a cute, simple look to street style glory. Here are my tips for pulling off this look:

Tip #1: Quality over quantity.

My first rule when shopping for a novelty or statement item like this? Go for the real deal and top quality. In this case it’s vintage, handmade, or designer, but keep reading for my notes on shopping this look at a lower price point because there are some great options out there! This top was a real score at Garment Modern + Vintage. Shop owner Masha’s curation of incredible pieces means that I never leave that place empty-handed.

Tip #2: Hand embroidery stands the test of time.

If you opt for a machine-made version of an embroidered blouse, please know that this item may not stay intact for years the way that a hand-embroidered top usually will. This option is great if you are in need of a quick outfit for a date or party, as it will surely be on trend with cuts and patterns, but know that over time, the thread color may fade and stitches can be more prone to breakage.

Tip #3: Choose a color palette and stick to it.

When styling this look, I chose to keep the styling simple and elevated, almost nautical. By pairing the blue blouse with a pair of white skinnies, it felt breezy and ready for a summer day of rosé sipping in the South of France. I elevated the look with accessories like the brass belt buckle, espadrille-inspired shoes and straw hat. I could have gone endless directions with this top as a jumping off point; the point is to hone in on your color palette and build from there.

Tip #4: Bell sleeves are big.

Two of spring’s biggest trends are embroidery and bell sleeves, so why not bring them together? The seventies vibe of both trends makes them a perfect patch, and the combination of pattern and shape adds loads of interest to this look.

Tip #5: Dress it up.

An embroidered blouse can definitely go dressy, too! Look for dressier materials and ornate embroidery for a top that feels truly special. An off-the-shoulder embroidered blouse paired with a long black skirt or trousers is the ultimate way to be a bohemian-chic girl at a nighttime event.
