As a child of the 90’s growing up in Texas, I was rarely seen not wearing overalls, often paired with a classic tie dye tee and Converse sneakers. Comfortable, cute, ready for anything, and able to withstand triple digit temps without making me melt like a popsicle — overalls were the ultimate childhood wardrobe essential in the summer.
Although we may have taken a break in recent years from the retro trend, what goes around always comes back around — and we’re happy to see them officially back in cool kid fashion rotation.
Although I still love sporting the OG way and styling my ‘ralls with a tee, I’ve recently found new ways that take them from playground level to trendy, put-together adult level. Celebs and fashionistas alike have been slipping sleek bodysuits underneath, experimenting with color, pairing distressed styles with bright vintage crop tops, and even fashioning a one-strap “I woke up like this” look that if done well, screams effortlessly cool. With so many styles to choose from, we’ve already started working on our collections and are getting excited to sport them all the way through fall. With a neutral base like denim or linen, try mixing and matching prints to amp up your look up top, or keep it simple and sleek with just a bralette underneath.
