Homemade facial scrubs are a great place to start if you’re new to DIY skincare. Not only are they easy to whip up using familiar, simple, inexpensive ingredients, they’re also an important step in a healthy skincare routine.
Facial scrubs can slough off dead skin cells, soften skin, and reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. Ideally, they should be used 1-3 times a week, after cleaning the face and before applying a toner or moisturizer.
Although scrubs can be made with a variety of exfoliants such as sugar, salt, and baking soda, I like to use a base of oatmeal, which has been used for thousands of years to gently cleanse, exfoliate, heal, and moisturize the skin. It’s safe for all skin types and is excellent at soothing sensitive skin. Makes ½ cup of powder for the scrub.
