Our Fave New Workout Hairstyle

By Jenn Rose Smith

Best workout hairstyle ever.So cute! Trying this next week at the gym for sure.

DIRECTIONS:

  1. First start with hair in a high pony. You can choose a slick look or leave a bit of texture for more of an undone look.
  2. Braid your pony tail in a simple three strand braid. (You can do any braid — a fishtail braid would look even more interesting!) Be sure to secure the braid with a clear elastic band.
  3. Gently loosen the braid to create a fuller/messier look.
  4. Continue to do so all the way to the end of the braid. Don’t be upset if layers start to poke out, this will create more texture.
  5. Start to wrap the braid around the base of the ponytail.
  6. Once you have wrapped the braid, feel free to pull the braid apart and position the braid how you want it. If you have dimension in your hair color you will see the how it creates different patterns that a more interesting than just a regular bun!
  7. Once you have your bun in place, secure it with two bobby pins. I prefer to use larger bobby pins to really hold it in place. This is important if you know that your exercise movements can make the bun loosen up. You don’t want your hair to come undone during the workout!
  8. Finish the look by lightly pulling any small whispy hairs around your hairline. This gives it a softer look and therefore makes it look a little more casual and effortless.

Best workout hairstyle ever.

Erica’s Pro Tip:As mentioned before, I don’t recommend washing your hair every single day — but some of you like to workout everyday. One of the great things about this look is that if you wanted to take your hair down afterwards and head to work, you can simply add a bit of dry shampoo and have a fun textured/wavy look. It sounds gross but I always tell clients that every gym usually has a hair dryer handy, just blow dry any sweat you may have and go to town with your dry shampoo. One of my favorite dry shampoos is by Kevin Murphy, it’s called Fresh Hair. It’s perfect for all hair types and even great for brunettes. EVERY girl should have dry shampoo as part of their product collection. Don’t worry about your hair smelling, most dry shampoos have a great scent that will mask any unwanted odor.”
