The fashion industry loves the occasional fling with cowboy boots. It seems like every 6 or 7 years, there they are again. But here in Texas, boots are a lifelong love affair. We have junker pairs from thrift shops, high fashion versions from Neimans, and (for the serious collectors) custom creations from legendary bookmakers like Lee Miller. (FYI: He has a three year wait list for new customers… and he’s not taking new customers.)

All that said, cowboy boots can easily end up as “closet dressing” if you never figure out how to wear them. Paired with the wrong outfit, things can go very costume-y, very fast. And of course there’s the age old question: to tuck or not to tuck? Right now I think the freshest way to wear boots is tucked/exposed (shaft showing) paired with a piece that strongly contrasts against them. Think long feminine dresses, wide legged jumpsuits, and tailored city fabrics. Least you want to look like Jessica Simpson from The Dukes of Hazzard, probably best to stay away from denim cutoffs and denim minis. I’ve rounded up a few great street style inspo pics for how you can rock a pair of boots this spring, and included links for similar products.

Just remember, there’s only one truly Texan way to wear boots: with confidence.
