10 Best Home Libraries

By Jenn Rose Smith

Of all the rooms in my future dream house, the library is the one I think about most. Would it have a mix of paperbacks and hardback editions? Or would it be completely leather bound classics? Would I arrange them by genre, then author? Would there be room for a projector, and maybe a velvet tufted sofa? In any case, there’s nothing cozier than a comfortable room full of books and a fireplace. (The fireplace is a non-negotiable for my dream study.) We’ve perused Pinterest to find our ten favorite home libraries from modern to traditional. I’d like to curl up with a good book in #7 from our list. Which is your favorite?

I could get lost in #5! I’ve always wanted a home library. Nice round up!

The Emerald and Walnut, for sure. I’d love to curl up on that sumptuous green velvet sofa with a hot cup of tea and spend a few quiet hours immersed in a good book. All that’s missing is a library ladder!

  3. Karin says:

I love the messy library of Nigella Lawson….thinking of all the cookbooks she might have.

  4. Nina says:

I love the Emerald and Walnut too, That one combined with Nigella’s. That’s my dream. Trying to re-do my bedroom that has a wall of books like #10. Decided how to get balance and not be overwhelmed by all the color!

I always think about the library when I think of my future home! I think it makes a home and these libraries just emphasize my point.

A perfect library must have one of those library ladders. I love the ones in your pictures!

  7. Kate says:

What a great post! I, too, love to fantasize about my future library. Mine would have dark wood paneling and a leather armchair, and I’d hang vintage paintings on the wall.

For now, I settle for a few Target bookshelves in my apartment. A gal can dream!

Anyone who would arrange their books by color–even worse, by covering everything in white so that there is no color, should not be allowed to have books!!!
