Ever heard of flower bombing someone? It’s basically when you make a room look like a flower explosion happened, using tons and tons of blooms to create a massive installation — we’re talking total flower overload. And trust us, it’s just as beautiful as it sounds! Caroline’s birthday was last week, so we teamed up with our friends at UrbanStems to plan the ultimate birthday surprise by flower bombing our studio living room. When Caroline arrived at work, she’d be greeted by all of her favorite flowers and get to take them all home at the end of the day. It was a gorgeous success, and we couldn’t resist sharing! Keep scrolling for all the photos from the celebration along with tips on how you can set off a flower bomb of your own.

We started by ordering lots of bouquets from UrbanStems. Caroline loves roses so we chose arrangements that were filled with her favorite blooms in shades of red, orange, and white. Two of our favorites were The Eventide and Double The Lattice.
I’ll admit, our birthday planning was a little last minute — but luckily, UrbanStems offers free same-day delivery, which means we got the freshest flowers in town. They were delivered right to our door in 2 hours!
Chanel made this paper birthday banner to hang above the fireplace. To create your own, print out letters on colored printer paper and trim the bottoms into an angled ribbon cut. Hole punch each piece of paper in the top corners and thread a ribbon through each hole. Pin to the wall and you’ve got yourself a crafty birthday banner!
I blew up a few balloons to sit on the ceiling while Camille arranged the UrbanStems bouquets into vases. We placed flowers everywhere — all along the mantle, scattered onto chairs, and even tucked into the firewood in our fireplace! No surface was left untouched.
We’re always trying to think of inventive ways to dress up our fireplace. It’s usually filled with pillar candles to go with our all-white vibes, but I loved how it looked filled with flowers. These bouquets added the perfect pop of color to our space.
As soon as your bouquets arrive, follow these steps for the best flower care:
- Find a tall vase and fill it with cold water.
- Trim the stems of your flowers at a 45 degree angle for optimal water intake.
- Remove any leaves that sit below the water line so they don’t decompose.
- Lightly mist your flowers from time to time and take out any blooms that are past their prime.
- Keep your arrangement in a cool place for flowers that’ll last for days.
In addition to the flower bomb installation, we wrapped up some pretty presents to celebrate Caroline. Don’t the colors of our wrapping paper and ribbon match the flowers perfectly?!
All of our bouquets came from UrbanStems’ new Cozy Collection. The line was inspired by the Scandinavian concept of Hygge — so think cozy sweaters, knit blankets, and curling up by the fire.
No birthday celebration is complete without a cupcake!
We went old-school when it came to party decor and opted for metallic party hats and colorful helium-filled balloons. As soon as Caroline walked in the door, we all yelled, “SURPRISE!” and boy, was she surprised!
Isn’t this the coolest birthday installation you’ve ever seen?! We loved the layered look of all the flowers and party decor.
