When people talk about the magic of summer produce, they often leave out mention of honeydew melons. Tomatoes, watermelon, corn, and summer squash get all the glory this time of year. Trust me, I get it! I love eating as much of those ingredients as I possibly can during the warmer months. But now—it’s time we celebrate honeydew. If you still think this sweet green melon only belongs in sad cups of store-bought fruit salad, it’s time for a new perspective. I promise: if you lean into its flavor this season, you’ll be a convert too.

Honeydew melons have that beautiful pastel green color matched with a light and almost floral flavor that feels so fresh and perfect for a hot summer day. But its flavor is subtle, so it’s a fruit that works really well paired with other flavors. And because it’s summer, frozen fruits are extra refreshing and delicious. Trust me, you’ll feel like you’re hanging out on the beach all day long with one of these honeydew melon slushies.

Coconut milk. Just a little for the creamiest slushies.

How to Prepare Honeydew Melon Slushies

Let me be clear: this is a no-recipe recipe. But! There are a few things that ensure the best results.

First, I like freezing about 3/4 of my cubed melon and keeping the rest fresh. For the best slushy flavor and texture, skip the extra liquid and blend frozen melon with the juice of a fresh one. This helps your blender out and keeps the texture perfectly icy without being watery. Plus, I find the balance of fresh and frozen flavor to be best.

For a creamier texture, add a splash of coconut milk. I get the best results by using just the creamy top portion of a can of coconut milk. Because melons have a lot of water, adding a tiny bit of fat helps round out the texture.

When you’re ready to serve, add all the other ingredients to a blender. Easy! (And yes, delicious.)

How to Make This Recipe Your Own

There are lots of fun ways to customize your honeydew melon slushie. These are my favorite versions:

  • Use ginger syrup or a little ginger beer to add an extra kick of flavor to the slushie.
  • Make a layered slushie with honeydew and cantaloupe for a fun orange and green layered drink.
  • Add cucumber and cut the coconut milk for a refreshing green juice vibe.

Honeydew Melon Slushies

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large honeydew melon, cubed
  • 12 tablespoons honey
  • 1 sprig of mint
  • 23 tablespoons cream from a can of coconut milk
  • small squeeze of lemon juice
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Cube your honeydew melon. Store about 3/4 of the melon in an airtight container and freeze overnight. Store the other quarter in an airtight container in the fridge overnight.
  2. When ready to serve, add all of the ingredients to a high-power blender and blend until thick and smooth, adjusting liquid as needed. Taste and adjust as needed. Enjoy!
