It seems like winter is never-ending… and just like that, it’s the time of year where we’re all in a panic about how to protect our delicate complexions that haven’t seen the sun in months. It’s certainly an upside that there are more products than ever on the market to help you find the exact sunscreen to meet any need, but of course the sheer amount of options can be overwhelming. Should you choose mineral or chemical? Spray or lotion? Do you really need a separate sunscreen for your face? And how can you actually reapply as often as you’re supposed to without messing up your makeup and turning into a greasy mess?

Worry not—I have the answers to these questions and more, along with lots of potential sunscreen soul mates for you, right up ahead. Say goodbye to any excuses you had for not protecting your skin in the past; you’re about to become a total sun protection maven!

Coola Sport Mineral Sunscreen Stick SPF 50

Perfect for quick, on-the-go applications, I always think it’s a great idea to stash a sunscreen stick, especially for the beach when the sun is strong and smaller spots like your nose and the bridge of your nose are prone to burn. Bonus, this stick is 70%+ organic, so it’s great for kids and babies as well.

Dr. Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment SPF 30

Does your skin get hot, bothered and angry in the summer? Mine too, which is why I’ll be trying out this new color-correcting cream from Dr. Jart this summer. It soothes and strengthens sensitive complexion’s barriers, plus it features a green-to-beige tint that corrects any redness.

Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45

The easiest-ever way to reapply: this instant mineral SPF 45 spray easily dusts over makeup for an extra protective boost.

UncompliKated SPF 50 Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray

A great way to add an extra layer of protection to your face without layering on extra heavy creams and lotion is an SPF-packed setting spray like this one from Kate Somerville that boats SPF 50 and a smooth matte finish.

Supergoop! Perfect Day 2-in-1 Everywhere Lotion SPF 50 & Mint Condition Lip Shield SPF 30

If you’ve ever gotten your lips burned before, you know it’s the worst—so painful! Avoid any damage to the delicate skin of your lips with an SPF-infused lip balm; I love how this Supergoop product combines a lotion with an SPF 30 balm hidden right in the cap.

Passionflower & Argan Dry Oil SPF 50

If you were previously convinced that there’s nothing sexy about applying sunscreen, well, think again. This antioxidant-packed dry oil spray protects your bod with SPF50 while passionfruit oil adds antioxidant protection and an alluring scent.

Australian Gold Botanical Mineral Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50

If you’re looking for a reliable, easy lotion with high SPF, take this natural pick from Australian Gold for a spin. Featuring no chemical sunscreen ingredients but a non-whitening, non-sticky finish, this SPF 50 pick offers full-spectrum protection AND is water-resistant for 80 minutes.

Coppertone Clearly Sheer Whipped Sunscreen SPF 30

If you hate-hate-hate how heavy and sticky sunscreen can be, take a mousse for a spin: this light foam absorbs with no residue and leaves behind only a fresh, clean scent.

I use the Dr Jart+ already coz it has zinc in it and it really calms my red cheeks.
I love the idea of the Coppertone whipped can – might have to check that out!

I really want to try out the Peter Thomas Roth mineral sunscreen! I live between Texas and New York, and the summers are humid and sticky, to say the least. Would love something that won’t just slide off!
