If You’re Still Searching for Your Perfect Swimsuit, Let Our Editors Be Your Guide

From the versatile one-piece to the cheeky ‘kini.

By Sacha Strebe

It goes without saying that as an Australian I was practically raised on the beach. I was born in Cairns on the east coast of far north Queensland where the average annual percentage of humidity is 63% and in the summer, it can creep upwards of 81% or more. So you might as well be swimming in the pool or the ocean or suffer the fate of being covered in your own sweat (and by covered I mean wet and dripping—it’s not fun!) But, the beaches in that part of the world are like nowhere else on this planet—after all, we’re home to the Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. I would swim almost every day, multiple times a day of my young life so it’s safe to say I have tried a lot of the best swimsuits in my time.

I think we can all agree that finding the right swimsuit is a journey but thankfully there is a lot of variety online to suit all the different shapes, sizes, and styles out there. To help with the hunt, we asked our editorial team to share their current favorites. Keep reading to discover some of the best swimsuits for all occasions, any time of the year.

“I have three of the Onia Danielle one-piece suits. I find them to be super flattering. I love the underwire; it gives you just a little lift without feeling like a push-up. The belt helps emphasize the waistline and the high cut style leaves your legs looking long. What more could you ask for?” — Brandy Joy Smith, Motherhood Contributor

“I grew up in one of the hottest climates in the world: Australia. So wearing a UPF rashguard is pretty commonplace at the beach. But the design has come a LONG way since I was a little girl. This Vitamin A swim style worn with the full-cut bottoms helps to protect me from skin cancer and accelerated aging while still making me look chic. Now, that’s a combo I can write home about.” — Sacha Strebe, Deputy Editor

“Australia-based Triangl has come a long way from those ubiquitous neoprene push-up tops that ruled Instagram a few years ago. Now, their fits are a bit more relaxed (there’s even a high-waisted version of most bottoms), but the true beauty of the online-only, direct-to-consumer brand remains: it’s one of the rare swimwear companies that sell their bikinis as a set, and they’re almost all under $100.” — Caitlin Clark, Contributing Editor

“This was the only swimsuit I packed for our recent camping trip where we swam in freshwater rivers, swimming pools, and lakes. I love how versatile it is—it feels classic and cool without being overly fashion-forward. It survived all of the swimming I threw at it and still looks brand new. I also love how the high-waisted bottom sits snug above the belly button. It’s very flattering!” — Sacha Strebe, Deputy EditorAndie Valencia Top

At first glance, this suit is a classic triangle bikini—albeit one that fits perfectly, lifts, and supports in all the right places. The ribbed material is ultra-flattering, and has a subtle sexy nineties vibe—sexy, but not too sexy.” — Camille Styles, editor-in-chief

Wanderlust Swim Sage Bottom

Shop Wanderlust Swim Nina Top and Sky Bottom

I’m obsessed with Wanderlust’s stretchy, textured fabrics. This bikini holds you in, yet is so comfy and moves with you. I’m usually a black swimsuit kind of girl, but this sage color is so fun and flattering (and they have a few more great color options too!). You can mix and match tops and bottoms, but I love that these high-waisted bottoms have a bit of cheekiness.” — Hannah Zahner, Beauty and Wellness Editor

Try as I might, I can’t quit Aerie swimsuits. Every season I find myself scrolling through the site, mixing and matching tops and bottoms. They’re wildly affordable, look amazing on all body types, and have a wide selection of colors, patterns, and styles. I generally go for a sporty type top and high rise, cheeky bottom, and I love knowing that I can pair this season’s top with last season’s bottom and it’ll look great.” — Lourdes Avila Uribe, Contributing Editor

“There are so many incredible Aussie clothing designers but the nation is renowned for their swimwear brands. Zulu & Zephyr is one of my favorites for its cool take on classic cuts and styles. The boy short is a great option for those of us who like to be a little more covered at the beach but not too much (they’re still cheeky!) and the bralette feels like an athleisure/swim hybrid.” — Sacha Strebe, Deputy Editor

“I recently discovered Sézane’s swimsuits, and they are stunning. Timeless, beautiful, and eco-friendly, this swimsuit is the perfect amount of feminine and playful. I love the deep v-neck (especially as someone with a small chest) and it hugs in all the right areas. I recently wore it on a girls’ trip in Scottsdale, but I also plan to wear it on the beach in Hawaii—chasing around my toddler.” — Edie Horstman, Wellness Contributor

What better excuse is there to splurge on a swimsuit than an upcoming bachelorette trip to Miami? I couldn’t resist this funky set when I saw it at a local boutique recently and knew it had to be mine. The high-waisted, high-cut bottoms and sporty top are super flattering and comfortable, and the bold colors and glitter are the life of the party.” — Michelle Nash, Senior Producer

Johanna Ortiz High Noon Printed One-Piece Swimsuit

“This Texas girl has quite the thing for Colombian-born designer Johanna Ortiz’s creations. (Her exquisite patterns, rich color palettes, the best quality fabrics, and impeccable construction.) I recently purchased this splurgy one-piece for weekends on the lake and afternoons by the pool, and it’s been nonstop compliments ever since. With the way it shows a little skin without bearing too much, this suit is the right amount of girly-meets-sexy.” — Anne Campbell, Contributing Editor

Christopher Esber Looped Halterneck One-Piece

“I have an unhealthy obsession with Australian designer, Christopher Esber’s clothing. My wardrobe has quite the collection of his runway designs and since his recent launch into swimwear, I have been eyeing off this one-piece. Not unlike his ready-to-wear, Esber applies the same attention to detail and level of craft to create swimsuits that feel like couture. And this piece isn’t just for the beach. I would also wear this with relaxed linen or silk palazzo pants, full-length silk skirt, or shorts for a more casual look.” — Sacha Strebe, Deputy Editor

Solid & Striped Anne-Marie One-Piece

Shop Solid and Striped, Anne-Marie One Piece

The best classic, black one-piece I’ve found. I’ve had this suit for a few seasons and it has lasted so well. The fabric is thick, comfortable, and so soft. Since it’s a more traditional cut, I love that the back has a nice, deep scoop.” — Hannah Zahner, Beauty and Wellness Editor

Aexae gathered one-piece swimsuit

Shop Aexae Gathered One-Piece Swimsuit

“Another Aussie brand I love (are you noticing a trend?) is Aexae swim. They are a sustainable swimwear line with cool, flattering shapes (I love this bandeau style). I typically go for neutral colors (they have a stunning chocolate brown suit) but I have really been feeling green lately and this one is a super fun bright color. Plus, I’m a sucker for a strapless one-piece—the ruching on the sides makes this one feel more fashion-forward though. And fun fact, for each order, they plant a mangrove tree in Madagascar to cultivate ecosystems and protect the environment by removing c02 from the atmosphere.” — Sacha Strebe, Deputy Editor

Fella Swim Brad Top

Shop Fella Swim Brad Top

I love a good bra-top that’s supportive and classic like this one, especially for boat days when I don’t want to be constantly adjusting my swimsuit. This top had slightly less coverage, so it’s better for smaller chests, but comes in tons of gorgeous colors and patterns—a total staple in any swimsuit collection.” — Michelle Nash, Senior Producer

Londre the minimalist one piece

Shop Londre Bodywear The Minimalist One Piece

This one-piece perfectly splits the difference between being a classic, simple bathing suit and having a sexy, modern edge. It’s cheeky enough that I feel daring and European, but sturdy and provides enough coverage that I feel comfy swimming and lounging with family and friends. It has an incredibly silky smooth texture that is ultra-luxurious, so I can tap into my inner glam side without going overboard. It’s my one-piece go-to every year.” — Lourdes Avila Uribe, Contributing Editor
