Among the interior design set, and in Austin especially, the name Katie Kime has been popping up a lot lately. So what’s all the buzz about? Maybe it’s her new home decor shop at one of the city’s busiest intersections, or her involvement in some of this town’s hottest parties, or the biggest conversation topic of all, her closet. If it were up to us, the room would have its own Instagram account just to give us a glimpse of what goes on within its walls each day (and note so self: add Katie’s closet to this epic roundup). So to satisfy our own curiosities, we asked Katie to be the next subject of our new Getting Dressed With series, and suffice it to say, she didn’t disappoint.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

Head straight to the coffee pot. Really, I’m one of those people.

Your favorite getting-ready soundtrack?

The romantic singer/songwriter channel on Songza. It’s a perfect mix of not being too peppy for just waking up, but still gets the blood flowing.

Healthiest morning habit:

Right after coffee I read a long daily meditation from a favorite author/teacher that I love. It kind of sets my intention for the day and I think it’s a really healthy and helpful habit.

Worst morning habit:

Throwing my hair into a messy bun on top of my head instead of fixing it which never makes me feel quite as put together!

Do you workout in the morning?

Yes! If I don’t work out in the morning it’s not gonna happen. I go to Mod Fitness or Love Cycling (which I’m currently obsessed with) for the 8:30/9 classes. I wish I could be the 6am person, but as hard as I try, I can’t! So I’ve just embraced a later start to my day.

What do you eat for breakfast?

Lots of coffee with almond milk and a green smoothie made of orange juice, spinach, frozen blueberries, and a banana. It’s amazing.

*pictured: Katie’s famous walk-in closet. Love the wallpaper? It’s from Katie’s own line!

How long does it take you to get ready from start to finish?

It all depends on the hair. I don’t have to wash my hair that much because it’s dry and wavy in texture, but if I’m doing it from start to finish it’s about 45 minutes.

Katie’s impressive accessories collection laid out on a surface in her closet. And oh yeah, this is just a fraction of it.

*pictured: the vanity in Katie’s closet.

Do you stick to the same makeup and hair routine, or do you like to experiment?

I stick to the same routine as far as getting ready. But I’ve recently started experimenting with hair and eyelash extensions which has been kind of fun and interesting.

If you could only put on one item of makeup, what would it be?

Definitely mascara.

Shower: morning or night?

In the morning after my workout, bath at night to wind down.

What’s your favorite product in your shower?

Le Labo Rose 31 shower gel.

*pictured: Katie recently lined the walls in her bathroom with faux boxwood. How’s that for making a statement?

Do you have a signature scent?

I do! Labo Santal 33.

Daily uniform:

Distressed skinny jeans, a button down shirt and a duster of some sort – Rag & Bone is my favorite, YSL fringe booties.

I never leave the house without…

My computer. I love to work from random places or have working lunches between appointments and store visits.

One word to describe your mornings:

Crucial.

I’m not sure what’s more amazing – her closet or her bathroom!

Hi! Thank you for the lovely post. Is there any chance that Katie would share details on her favorite author of her daily meditations? That sounds like a wonderful way to start the day. Thank you!

This is for Laura. Laura…Theresa here a reader. I do the same as Katie with reading daily inspirations/meditations. Here are three I read every morning…you can read one of them, two of them or three of them. They really center me before my day begins: Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach, Younger by the Day by Victoria Moran and
Creating A Charmed Life by Victoria Moran. I’m sure you can find all on Amazon.

Ha, maybe a little harsh, but I get it. I too am on the morning smoothie train and love Le Labo fragrances… and am suddenly feeling so cliché! 😉 We definitely aim to feature a diverse group of creative ladies on the site, and we’ve got some great ones coming for you.

Yeah, sorry for the tone – I am sleep deprived (new baby) and money poor and my jealousy was showing! I appreciate the response, and will keep checking out the site, which I do enjoy.
