This may sound silly, but figuring out the secret to looking chic while traveling is one of my life goals. During my stint as a travel editor, I was surrounded by women who traveled constantly, and who made living out of a suitcase and a carry-on tote look effortless. And while I definitely never managed to make my own travel style look as breezy as theirs, I did learn is that staying put-together while on the road or hitting the skies starts with your luggage.

More specifically, you need to have a carry-on tote that’s as functional as it is cute.

Even if you never quite temper your overpacking impulses enough to pack for more than a night away in a carry-on (though Camille’s carry-on packing guide will help even the biggest packrats streamline) having a carry-on that can fit all of your essentials is a non-negotiable for summer travel. So, in order to make all of our getaway plans a little bit chicer, I scoured the internet for the best totes of the summer. Though not all on this list are big enough to replace your checked bag, each will keep everything you need organized and easily accessible. Because having to dump out your bag in search of your passport at security is never a good look. Now it’s time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the journey.

I love those leather madewell and everlane totes, but they don’t zip close- which meas that if you put them under rhe seat in front or in the baggage spot up top stuff is going to fall out. 🙁 They would be perfect otherwise!
