Nothing dates a home quite like the kitchen. In fact, if you lived in the suburbs your exact age can basically be calculated by the type and color of countertops you grew up with. (We had an off-white formica, so you do the math.) Fortunately, these days we’re seeing more options when it comes to keeping a kitchen current. While this decade is bound to be remembered for basics like subway tile and Carrara marble, there are plenty of fun directions to chose from when it comes to current kitchen design. Some of my favorite new trends are the ones that draw from a rustic, pastoral perspective (think more freestanding furniture, fewer built-in cabinets and shelves.)
