We’ve had an ever-so-slight decrease in temperature here in Austin, and all of a sudden my autumn nesting instincts are taking over in a big way. I went antiquing this weekend and felt strong urges to buy Tartan wool throws and glass goblets worthy of a Thanksgiving feast. I know we have a long way to go before I legitimately need anything wool in my home, but I can’t help that I’m getting excited for fall. Keep reading to find out what I’m looking forward to, and share your fall favorites in the comments below!
Jewel tones – I love a monochrome white space as much as the next design addict, but I’ve been pinning jewel-toned velvet sofas in greens, purples and burgundies lately. We’ve seen a lot of gray, blue and white kitchen cabinets lately, so I’m loving the departure of this emerald green kitchen. There are so many interesting color combinations that can be paired with this backdrop, from orange to teal to yellow.
Drama – Minimalism may be on its way out with a return to dramatic statements both in interiors and fashion. Though I love the look of a single, black and white abstract painting, this collection of oil portraits and still lives is one I’m tempted to start myself.
Antiques – Mid-century modern has its place in my heart, but lately I’ve been drawn to the more decadent embellishments of the 1920’s. Antique shops are full of reasonably priced beautiful Depression Glass in a rainbow of colors that would look just as lovely on open kitchen shelving as they would on your table at your next dinner party. Antique malls are also a treasure trove of silverware sets like this Laguiole ivory set that I have on my wishlist.
Entertaining – Once you’ve stocked up on antique silver and glassware, it will be time to throw a dinner party! Fall and winter are the seasons of holiday dinner parties, and I’m keen to get a head start with a few small get togethers with close friends. But you don’t have to wait for a formal soiree to get out your best serveware. My best friend uses antique cups regularly whether it’s for salsa on a weeknight or for granola and yogurt on Saturday morning, and she’s inspired me to start doing the same.
What are you most excited about doing in your home this fall?
