We Want To Spend Every Morning At Nitsa Citrine’s Malibu Home

The creative lives with her head in the clouds.

Nitsa Citrine of Sun Potion at home in Malibu

The dauntingly steep and winding road to Nitsa Citrine’s hillside home serves as a preface for entering her world: time to slow down.

By the time you’re there, the manic energy of Los Angeles has left your body.

Her living room opens to a terrace with a breathtaking view of hills and sky, and it’s there that the alchemist/artist/creative director of Sun Potion spends much of her time. (You’ve seen Sun Potion’s cult wellness products on GOOP, Reformation, and Free People — the company is devoted to health, happiness, and well-being through the use of medicinal plants, superfoods, and tonic herbs.) Nitsa herself is a testament to slow living — her natural beauty is truly radiant. We were so inspired by her effortless style and graceful energy. Scroll down to see Nitsa’s peaceful morning routine, and see how this stunning creative lives with her head in the clouds.

The first thing you do each morning:

Take a moment to articulate to myself (and the universe) what I am grateful for… that day… whatever comes to mind (before I get out of bed)! I love this practice because it sets the frequency of gratitude for the whole day.

Morning media habits:

I love to begin my mornings in silence, technology free as much as possible (working on this).

Eventually I get in the mood for music… I love music!  I have a few friends whose taste I really vibe with, so we’re constantly sharing songs and playlists… it’s like this alternate spotify dialogue – kind of hilarious and all over the map as far as genres but so inspiring (especially since I work a lot from home, alone, so great music is everything for workflow).

On Sunday mornings I read the NY Times. Usually in my underwear, on my deck. I always finish with the comics… I like to end on a humorous note. It’s the highlight of my week.

Tea or coffee rituals:

I love to enjoy a few bowls of tea (almost always sourced from my friend Colin who has an amazing wild / sustainable crafted tea company called Living Tea) I love to prepare a few rounds in silence and sip outside, overlooking the mountains or simply in a quiet space… It’s my daily meditation.

A typical breakfast:

Breakfast varies… most days I make myself an adaptogenic blended potion with homemade nut milk… a simple, light, nutrient rich breakfast. Some mornings I may have some fresh fruit and berries, grain free avocado toast or chia pudding with coconut cream… Today I had local free-range Costa Rican eggs — scrambled, with sauteed greens, veggies, avocado, pico de gallo — the works!

Favorite product for the shower:

Activated charcoal scrubbie (score from Japan travels) … and Poppy and Someday Ayurvedic Body Salt Scrub

Signature scent:

Golda Hiba oil, spiked with my personal blend of vetiver and  rose essential oils…

If you could only put on one item of makeup, what would it be?

Poppy and Someday ”Canyon Red” lip and cheek stain handmade with love in Laurel Canyon by my dear friend Kari.

Finish this sentence: I never leave the house without _________________.

Our Sun Potion Solar Rose Water

If you were to splurge on one beauty treatment or product, what would it be?

Daily facial massage.

Also > my friend Shiva has this new product coming out which I am obsessed with… I can not say the name of it yet but…. stay tuned. It is epic. I am already harassing her for more!

Your personal style:

Part utilitarian tomboy part feminine whimsy… but always comfortable. My credo is to always be as comfortable as possible in my body, in clothes.

Early bird or night owl?

Both! Depends on my mood… and motivations 😉

Favorite morning ritual:

Allowing / inviting inspiration to come, in all its forms…

Favorite place to wake up:

My bed! Swaddled in my Coyuchi linen sheets and surrounded by loved ones (not necessarily in my bed – but near!) I love family tea/ breakfast.

Or on Pfeiffer Ridge in Big Sur – my true home –  where I can hear the waves crashing, the ocean.

If you had one extra hour every morning, how would you use it?

Making love!

What you’re wearing today:

This is a silk and cotton skirt and blouse designed by one of my best friends Jaclyn  – whose line is AWAVEAWAKE.

I love that her designs use sustainably sourced fabrics (silk, hemp and cotton) which are plant-dyed by hand by artisans in Bali …. her pieces are feminine, sexy and created with love and reverence for our Mother Earth. They are luscious and feel amazing on the skin and are the next best thing to being nude!

Two words to describe your mornings:
