You know those peoples’ homes that always smell incredible? The best is when it’s not an overpowering smell that accosts you right when you walk in, but rather one that feels infused into the space. You walk in and instantly feel welcomed by the atmosphere the scent creates. Not to mention, a great smelling space is an instant mood-booster and creates a relaxing environment for guests and the people that actually live there.

And while candles are the obvious route, there are so many other ways to make your space smell amazing.

From luxury room sprays to a custom oil blend, check out these ways to make your home more welcoming without lighting one scented candle.

Potpourri on the Stove

Stovetop potpourri isn’t just for the holidays, it’s a great way to freshen the air in your home any time of year! Simmer water in a small saucepan and add citrus slices and herbs, like lavender, rosemary and mint for a summery scent or go the cozy route with sliced apples, orange rinds, cinnamon and cloves. Set a timer to check on the simmering potpourri every 30 minutes to see if you need to add water, or turn it off, or use a crockpot for a no-fuss option!

Just be careful with essential oils if you have pets! Do some research on the type and quantity you are going to use, as certain ones can be harmful to dogs/cats. 🙂

Love the idea of this article, but more respect could be used when describing palo santo, considering its deep spiritual significance in Indigenous communities, as well as information about ethically and sustainably sourcing it.

Thanks for your comment Katie! You’re so right – there’s so much more to be said for it than what we covered in the short description. Would love to know more about ethically and sustainably sourcing it if you had info to share!
