October always seems to be the busiest month, and this year is no exception. In the past 10 days alone, I’ve found myself in Los Angeles, Austin, back to Los Angeles, and New York City, and next week I’m headed to Cabo for a much needed vacation. Juggling so many schedules for my family, my team and myself, I’m in need of a low-maintenance skincare routine that keeps me glowing, and Botanics checks both boxes. Their 7 skincare ranges are powered by plant extracts, one of my favorites being the Organics line, which features nourishing rosehip extract to keep skin healthy and revitalized, which is exactly what I need after extra long work days and red-eye flights. Inspired by Botanics’ Organic range , we put together a seven day skin detox challenge with simple tips for keeping your skin fresh and healthy. After you complete the challenge, feel free to make it your own! Maybe that means revisiting the challenge once a month, or implementing one of the tips every single day. These small changes make it easy to prioritize healthy skin, no matter how busy your schedule.
SUNDAY // Get at least eight hours of sleep.
I’ve always been one of those people who never gave sleep a second thought until recently. From battling insomnia to trying to find ways to fall asleep faster, I’ve realized just how important a good night’s sleep is. Not getting enough sleep can affect your mood, your productivity, and your skin. Need some extra help? Check out my 12 tips for getting a better night’s sleep and this list of 10 ways to fight insomnia naturally.
MONDAY // Freshen up with Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz and nourish skin with the 100% Organic Facial Oil.
Start by washing your face and then generously spray your Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz over your face and neck. This will reinvigorate your skin and prepare your pores to soak up your moisturizer. Then, apply a couple drops of your Botanics 100% Organic Facial Oil to nourish your skin and lock in moisture for hours. No need to worry about looking greasy, this oil in particular is non-greasy and fast absorbing.
TUESDAY // Drink up, buttercup!
We all know we should be drinking eight cups of water a day, but on busy days that’s usually the last thing on my mind. To keep myself hydrated, I like to start my day with a big glass of water and take a water bottle with me wherever I go. Not only does drinking lots of water cleanse your body of toxins, but it also keeps your skin super hydrated — and dewey, moisturized skin is what keeps us looking forever young.
WEDNESDAY // Let your skin breathe.
Embrace your face and start your day sans makeup! I know, you might feel a little “naked” at first, but trust me, your skin will thank you for even one day off. Feeling ambitious? See how long you can go without makeup, or post your own #nomakeup selfie. With clean pores, your skin will glow and your confidence is sure to increase.
THURSDAY // Whip up a homemade face mask.
As the week starts to wind down, I like to pamper myself before spending a jam-packed weekend with friends and family. I love making my own face masks at home because you can tailor the ingredients to fit your specific needs. When my skin needs to calm down, I add eucalyptus oil, or when I want some anti-aging benefits, I add honey. Create your own combinations or check out our 6 recipes for at-home face masks.
FRIDAY // Slash your intake of red meat, sugar, and dairy.
My dermatologist shared with us a list of how different foods affect your skin, and it was truly eye-opening! She suggests to focus on lean proteins, rather than red meat, because they are anti-inflammatory, and to avoid sugar which speeds up the aging process. She also encourages us to stock up on fresh fruit which helps form tight collagen fibers and raw veggies that help protect our skin from the sun.
SATURDAY // Throw on a hat.
I spend a lot of my Saturdays outside — a walk around the lake with my family, lunch at a patio café downtown, and dinner in our backyard on the terrace. Protecting your skin from the sun is so important (even on cloudy days!), but if you’re worried about clogging your pores with harsh sunscreens, opt for wearing a hat instead. Sport a ball cap for your morning run, or a straw hat for dinner out with the girls. Taking care of your skin is always in style.
