If you haven’t yet subscribed to my Substack, it’s where I get a little more personal—writing from the heart about self-care, motherhood, wellness, and all things in between. My community loved this post there, so I wanted to share an excerpt with you here.
“You have to simplify your life.”
These words were echoing in my mind as I drove down the highway, accompanied by that familiar pit in my stomach that comes when I know I’ve gone a little off track.
The last few years of my life have been full of saying yes—to new projects and houses and businesses—along with the investment that comes with them. Adam and I love to build and create, and everything we’d taken on was something we were genuinely excited about.
But more stuff and more commitments also means more work. More hustling to keep all the balls in the air.
And at what cost? That inner voice kept asking, tapping into the anxiety that had been nagging at the back of my mind for months.
Because when I thought about my biggest dreams for the future, they included spaciousness and freedom. Time to prioritize what was most precious to me—and the capacity to pursue new ideas I could feel beginning to take shape.

I realized that simplifying didn’t mean I wanted to do less with my life. If anything, it was the opposite. I still wanted to create and build and dream big—I just couldn’t keep giving so much of my energy to everything we’d already built. If I wanted to make room for what was calling me now, I had to be willing to release some of what belonged to that earlier chapter.
So I finally chose to listen. Instead of continuing to blindly barrel down the road we were on, eyes squeezed shut and hoping for the best, we decided to hit the brakes and ask: What would it look like to deeply simplify our lives?
And here’s where we landed.
