Is it a good idea to work with your friends? The answer might surprise you

April 18th, 2017

In college, most of us learned that living with friends can actually be pretty tricky business. So when the question is whether to work with your BFF, the pressure’s much higher. So should you work with a friend? The usual advice goes something like this: No. Never. And… that’s the end of this article.

Gotcha! If there’s one thing we can agree on, it’s that the working world looks a whole lot different than it did when our parents or grandparents were sharing that little piece of wisdom with each other. These days, we’ve traded cubicles for entrepreneurial ventures and office hours for coffee shop meetings. So it’s unsurprising that the whole friends-as-colleagues thing has become something of a trend.

Such a great read, Lauren!!! You make me want to engage in more friendship-based collaborations this season…Thanks for the inspiration and for making me smile with your Oreo story =)

Awesome post. I do think it makes a huge difference what the natural friendship is like before working together though. Then it also makes a big difference if one is higher in the professional world than the other. If you’re managing a friend, it’s definitely not an easy game.
