DIY :: Floral Pin Card Holders

We thought we’d kick off the weekend with a project that is so simple, I can’t believe we hadn’t thought of it before. See that fabulous gold menu card holder on our all-white  buffet? If you hadn’t already guessed it, it’s actually made of a dolled up florist’s pin frog! Usually used to keep flowers perked upright in a vase, we realized that with a few minor tweaks, these spiky disks would make the perfect place card or menu card holders. Keep reading for the instructions, because this is one DIY you can’t afford not to do!

How to… Build a personal brand

J_Crew_Pajamas

Happy Friday, y’all! Can’t believe the weekend’s already upon us, and I couldn’t let the week pass by without making good on my promise to share a summary of my panel on “Building a Personal Brand” from Alt Summit (with lovely co-panelists, Cassandra LaValle and Jasmine Star.) When I asked if this is something that you guys would want to hear about, I never expected such an overwhelmingly positive response, so, here goes! A quick heads up that this is probably the longest post I’ve ever written, so if you’re not interested, feel free to come back by later today for a glamorous place card tutorial. Otherwise… let’s dive right inmore +

The Sunday Sweet

the sunday sweet styled shoot forest dessert buffet cherry pie cookies in a jar red velvet cake rustic banana pudding

Is there anything better than a beautifully-styled dessert buffet for an afternoon pick-me-up? Dana from The Sunday Sweet put together this totally magical display, and her mouth-watering sweets combined with natural vintage styling have us wanting to jump right in. I’ll let Dana describe her inspiration, and be sure to follow the jump for more beautiful details and her world-famous banana pudding recipe!

I created this cozy dessert bar with an intimate backyard wedding in mind, using a palette of green and white with pops of raspberry. Since The Sunday Sweet is all about sharing love with every bite, we thought a southern-inspired dessert menu would be the perfect complement to our display: cherry and apple pies, decadent dark chocolate brownies, mason jar cupcakes, mini cheesecakes, lemon cupcakes and banana pudding. more +

Pinned Down :: Espresso Cravings

affogato

Ever since I heard founder Ben speak at Alt Summit last week, I’ve been on even more of a Pinterest kick than usual. I’ve been stumbling across such beautiful things, I think I’m going to burst if I don’t share some of them with you here. So, I’m kicking off a new little series called Pinned Down, where I’ll be posting about my favorite discoveries for no other reason than that they’re jaw-droppingly beautiful. Today’s roundup is all about deep dark espresso and creamy latté (can you tell I’ve cut out coffee for a while?) I love the limited color palette featuring strong contrasting shades that are almost more effective than a morning java jolt. Keep reading for more (and their original sources), and if you’re not already, follow me on Pinterest heremore +

Transformed :: Taking Sides

Since I (Claire) successfully conquered my empty wall dilemma, I thought I’d keep the ball rolling by taking on the rest of the living room projects on my honey do list. My small space and large dog make it a challenge to squeeze in a coffee table, so I realized I needed some fab new side tables to flank my recently reupholstered sofa. As I began my hunt, research revealed so many options that indecisiveness quickly took over, so I need your help! I’d love to hear from all of you: Which of these end tables would you like to see me create? Pitch in your thoughts and ideas, and stay tuned for the reveal in two weeks!

DIY :: Gilded Business Cards

gold business cards craft diy spray paint

Remember when Camille shared her newly-spruced up business cards last week? Well, since you were all so curious to find out how we gilded the edges of the cards (and since we’re feeling so professional today, anyway), we thought this would be the perfect time to show you the step-by-step. After trial and error with acrylic paint and even a stamp pad, our trusty gold spray paint proved itself superior once again, making the project surprisingly simple. Follow the jump for the full instructional, and be sure to show us your revamped business cards! more +

Best of Alt :: Creative Biz Cards

Alt_Summit_Business_Cards

Morning everyone! So, y’all know that I went to Alt Summit last week, and was once again blown away by the talent, creativity, intelligence and all-around style of the ladies (and gents!) in attendance. Well, when it comes to personal branding and biz cards, you better be ready to bring it, because these Alt Summit-ers are not messing around. Last year I did a roundup of my favorite cards from the conference, and this year the ones I collected are on a whole new level, so I couldn’t resist showing them off. Confetti, neon edging, washi tape and tiny envelopes were all fair game…and I’d love to know which one’s your fave! This afternoon, I’ll be sharing the DIY details on how I did that gilded edging on my own cards, but for now, keep reading for more lovely detail shots and a few of the bloggers behind them!  more +

It’s been a while since we last featured amazing backstage fashion photography (remember these?), so we thought we’d brighten up this humdrum Tuesday with some beautiful, albeit overdue, textile imagery. The object of our affection: none other than photographer Morgan O’Donovan. Of course, with gorgeous girls and stunning clothes, you might guess that taking such pretty pictures is a piece of cake… but it’s the colors in O’Donovan’s photos that have us totally obsessed. Brilliantly saturated or softly muted, it’s all just lovely. See more, after the jump! more +

Tuesday Tastings :: Devilish Birthday Cake

Chocolate_Birthday_Cake

Have you ever promised to bake someone a birthday cake…and then completely forgotten until the morning of their birthday? No? Well, I did last week. After promising to bake my father-in-law a fabulous cake to ring in his 65th, it was gone from my mind until lunchtime on the big day, leaving me with only a few hours to whip up something that looked and tasted worthy of such an occasion. Enter this Devil’s Food Bavarian Torte, a little secret I keep in my arsenal for just such occasions. Although the recipe includes a super moist, super chocolate-y devil’s food cake recipe, I’m going to level with you guys: I totally used a mix instead. And no one suspected a thing as they bit into the heavenly layers of cake, chocolate shavings and mascarpone cream. Keep reading for lots more luscious images and the recipe. Oh, and let’s keep this our little secret, shall we?  more +

Bring it Home :: Refined Workspace

Desk frames on shelves malene birger via full house

Hi all! January is the month in which I (Cristina) resolve to get my home organized, and there’s always one area that is particularly susceptible to paper and clutter – my desk! The space that should that should be my most inspiring, creative, and productive is often the messiest, and I think it’s time to remedy that. I’m inspired by this black and white desk area and I believe my blog posts would be all the more beautiful if written from here, don’t you think?
