Salmon has maintained a weekly, if not more frequent, spot on my rotating dinner list for quite some time now. Because of how much this fish shows up in my regular diet, I flip-flop on my preferred method of making salmon—and I get a lot of practice. I’ve gone through many salmon phases—from grilling on a cedar plank to slow-roasting salmon. But lately, I’ve been going back to my crispy, caramelized-on-top broiling technique that turns out melt-in-your mouth salmon in literally five minutes.

There’s something magical about a recipe that takes under 30 minutes to throw together and that still tastes incredible. While I agree that cooking is both a luxury and an experience, there’s nothing like coming home after a long day to a short and simple recipe that everyone will love. Satisfying your fix for greens and veggies, this broiled salmon is a winning recipe that I enjoy year-round.

Why You’ll Love This Broiled Salmon Recipe

The high heat of broiling salmon caramelizes its natural sugars, bringing out a flavor unique to this fish. Broiling also helps to develop a crispy exterior while maintaining a moist interior. This process helps to render out some of the salmon’s fat, which can add to the savory flavor and tender texture. The quick cooking time of broiling also helps preserve salmon’s natural nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for heart and brain health.

Roasted cauliflower tossed with curry spices, crispy chickpeas, and lightly bitter arugula makes this a complete meal—full of healthy fat, protein, greens, and fiber—everything you need to feel good about life (or at least dinner).

Ingredients You’ll Need for Broiled Salmon

This recipe uses just a few pantry staples you likely have on hand. When you raid your fridge, keep this list of ingredients in mind:

  • Salmon fillets, skin removed. My lunch/dinner hack for busy weeknights is keeping frozen wild-caught salmon fillets in my freezer and defrosting them 30 minutes before I begin cooking.
  • Olive oil. THE pantry staple of all pantry staples.
  • Honey. This ingredient that everyone has lying around somewhere brings out the salmon’s natural sweetness.
  • Sriracha. For a bit of an extra kick.
  • Chopped cauliflower. This veggie is perfect for broiling to create a crunchy and seasoned side.
  • Curry powder. The ultimate flavor booster.
  • Chickpeas. For a bit of added protein.
  • Fresh spinach. Jam-packed with nutrients and a lovely flavor pairing for fish in general.
  • Garnishes. Cilantro leaves and red pepper flakes give this broiled salmon recipe the perfect boost of flavor.

Five-Minute Broiled Salmon With Curried Cauliflower and Greens

  • Author: Camille Styles

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 5ounce salmon fillets, skin removed (I ask the fishmonger to do it for me)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 2 teaspoons sriracha
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped cauliflower
  • 2 teaspoons curry powder
  • 1/4 cup cooked chickpeas (if from a can, rinse and drain)
  • 2 cups fresh spinach
  • garnish: cilantro leaves and red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F. In a large bowl, toss together the cauliflower, chickpeas, curry powder, 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt and pepper. Spread onto a baking sheet and roast for 10 minutes.
  2. While veggies are roasting, place salmon fillets on a foil-lined baking sheet. Drizzle remaining tablespoon of olive oil over salmon, then season with salt and pepper.
  3. Move the veggies to the lowest rack in the oven and turn up the oven to broil.
  4. Place the salmon on the top rack of the oven, about 6-inches from the broiler device, and broil for 4 minutes.
  5. While salmon is broiling, mix together the honey and sriracha.
  6. Remove salmon from the oven and brush with the honey and sriracha mixture. Broil for 1 more minute.
  7. Remove salmon and the cauliflower mixture from the oven.
  8. Toss the cauliflower mixture with fresh spinach and divide between two plates. Put the salmon on top, then garnish with cilantro and red pepper flakes.
