Handmade Happiness

heath ceramics handmade pottery san francisco summer coral peach bright dip paint hand made dinner ware dinnerware

We weren’t joking yesterday when we said that we’re simply smitten with everything coral for spring… and when I say ‘smitten with’, what I really mean is obsessing over. Add a new line by Heath Ceramics to the mix, and we’re a total lost cause. I know it might be a tad bit fantastical, but why not have just as much fun with your dinnerware as you do with your wardrobe, and transform it with the trends of the season? I can’t help but dream of scooping up every piece in Heath’s Summer Seasonal Collection and setting the most beautiful, color-charged table for a springtime get together. We’ve picked a few of our favorite item’s to share with you after the jump, but there’s a whole lot more where that came from here! more +

Tuesday Tastings :: Asparagus & Ricotta

crostini

Morning lovelies! As promised, I’m sharing the recipe for these totally awesome asparagus + fresh ricotta crostini that I whipped up when guests arrived for brunch on Easter. I’m kind of obsessed with these and have a feeling I’ll be making them for dinner parties all spring…the flavors and colors are so light, but the fresh, creamy ricotta makes them indulgent, too. And let’s be honest: you’ve got to use fresh ricotta here. My grocery store sells it from a local farm, but if your’s doesn’t, it’s super easy to make yourself. (see that cream in the recipe? that’s why it’s so good.) I toasted squares of super thin sourdough bread, mixed lemon zest into the ricotta, and sautéed asparagus with olive oil, salt, black pepper & lemon juice. Layered together and topped with a sprinkle of sea salt, it’s a bite of pure springtime. What crostini toppings are your favorites? I’m still loving this pea + mint version… and these with peach + prosciutto are insane. Keep reading for the asparagus + ricotta recipe!

Easter Snapshots

camillestyles_easter_coffee

A few of my favorite moments from our family Easter brunch yesterday… Adam and I hosted at our house this year, and it was so fun getting to have both sets of parents, plus some of my favorite cousins/best friends, all together in one place. I made a couple of big frittatas with roasted vegetables, prosciutto and fresh mozzarella….  more +

Monochromatic Monday :: Caramel + Coral

coral_crush_inspiration

Do you guys ever get “stuck” on a certain color? Where you find yourself compulsively pinning, buying and dreaming in monochrome? That’s what coral has been like for me lately (I suddenly have three coral dresses in my closet!), and I’m still swooning whenever I lay eyes on just the right shade. And I’m definitely not the only one… it’s a pretty hot color right now in interiors and fashion, and for today’s board I’ve combined it with warm shades of caramel for a subtle, sultry welcome-to-summer celebration. Slip on an ikat tunic, set the table with brilliant ceramics and vibrant blooms, and fill mason jars with ice cold greyhounds (my favorite summer drink.) The key is to use an ombré of coral shades – layer grapefruit, peach and watermelon to create the richest tonal affect. What do y’all think of coral for summer? Any other shades you’re obsessing over these days?

Hope you all had a great Easter and Passover weekend – this afternoon I’ll be sharing a few photos from my Easter brunch with the family! xx  more +

Have a {candy-fueled & magical} Easter!

Easter_Decor_Ideas_JenniferCausey

Up early this morning, prepping for the Easter brunch I’m making for our families today. I’m keeping things pretty simple – a big roasted veggie & prosciutto frittata, maple-glazed bacon, roasted potatoes, fruit salad and coffee cake muffins…and my mom is bringing her towering citrus-carrot cake with mascarpone icing to top things off! Thought I’d take a moment to share this Easter inspiration shot by Jennifer Causey for the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living…isn’t it perfection? Makes me dream about next Easter, when I’ll have a sweet baby girl to shower with smocked dresses and candy-filled eggs! Hope you all have a lovely holiday, and keep reading for more gorgeous images from the shoot…  more +

Weekend Notes

summer-picnic

Ahh, blissful springtime weekend, I am sooo ready for you. It’s been a great week full of lots of catch-up after Epcot, dinners with friends, a lovely happy hour with the whole team, and kicking off work on our next big project (can’t unveil details just yet, but promise – it’ll be worth the wait.) Today is my favorite type of Saturday: nothing on the agenda but hanging out by the pool, working in the garden, running errands around town and grilling steak & veggies for tacos on the terrace. I’ll also be doing some prep for tomorrow’s Easter brunch with our families. Next week we have our big 20-week sonogram, and I can’t wait to see how baby girl has grown and changed over the last couple months! How are all of you celebrating the Easter / Passover weekend? Hope it’s full of fun and great food, and enjoy a few of my favorite links from the week! (photo by jennifer causey, via note to self.)

I was a little hesitant about this sweet pizza, too…but it looks really delish.

A few simple ways to organize the chaos.

The 15-minute flower garland.

Everything about this Gramercy Hotel wedding is stunning…especially the bride.

Could the fabric version be almost as pretty as the real thing?

Would love to visit this jewel box of a cake shop.

One of the prettiest movie houses just went on the market.

Perfect roast chicken for a spring dinner party.

*and a few things you may have missed:

Easter egg poppers.

Know anyone who would be the perfect candidate?

Your new weekend breakfast.

Cracking Up

bistro-salad-with-pancetta

We’ve been pretty egg-centric this week (horrible pun, I know), first with our Easter Egg Poppers, then with yesterday’s Which Came First DIY… so what better way to wrap up the week than with some drool-inducing egg dishes that would be perfect for this weekend’s Easter brunch? I’m hosting for both sets of parents this year, and crossing my fingers for pretty weather so we can sit outside by the pool and relax with mimosas (or, sparkling grapefruit juice for me!) Wouldn’t this Bistro Salad with Pancetta (above, photo by susanna blaavarg) in the latest issue of Sweet Paul be the perfect first course? DIY :: Which Came First?

egg hatching peep easter egg diy

These days, spring’s arrival is heralded by countless things… bluebonnets, more hours of sunlight, SXSW, the list is endless. But as a child there was really just one way to be sure that summer was on its way: the appearance of Peeps at every turn! They hold such a weighted place in my memory bank that I knew I wanted to incorporate them into a DIY this year, and disregarding the Easter episode of Unwrapped, I thought I’d get imaginative with the concept. Why not bring the sugar-coated marshmallow favorites to life by concealing them in dyed eggs, and letting kids ‘hatch‘ them out? I can’t imagine a better way to pay homage to this childhood classic than by passing the penchant on to younger generations, and this project is super simple. Keep reading for step-by-step instructions, and I’d love to know whether Peeps are a mainstay in your springtime memories as well! more +

Transformed :: Better Off Shed

antler deer sheds shed diy craft hanger hook coat jewelry organization decor paint design

With the taste of Spring in the air, I (Claiream finding virtually every excuse possible to escape to the great outdoors. Those closest to me have always known that I’m a total nature nerd, but by now you may have all picked up on my tendency to give outdoor elements a makeover and then bring them indoors. Since I’m a sucker for deer sheds (did you happen to spot a gilded one on my great wall?), I’ve been dying to think up the right project to incorporate them into my home. Absolutely cruelty-free, sheds add such a fabulous touch to any space, and just browsing through the inspirational images I’ve found has me eager to get started… but first I’d love to hear your creative opinions on these 3 versions: How would you like to see my deer sheds transformed? Pitch in your thoughts and ideas, and stay tuned for the reveal with instructions in two weeks! more +
